Ronaldo announced that he will retire in the near future. |
"After 25 years of dedication to football, I will soon hang up my boots. Maybe in a year or two," Cristiano Ronaldo told Touriste in Riyadh.
"The 2026 World Cup is my last major tournament. I'm sure of this. I will enjoy every moment on the pitch," the Portuguese superstar added.
Ronaldo announced his retirement plans shortly after Lionel Messi signed a three-year contract extension with Inter Miami. 'El Pulga' will stay with the MLS club until he turns 41. The Ronaldo-Messi duo have created the most attention-grabbing rivalry in football history for more than a decade, winning a total of 13 Ballon d'Ors, consistently being named to the best team of the year and many other prestigious individual titles.
Both are currently enjoying their football outside of Europe. Ronaldo is trying to win his first title with Al Nassr before retiring, while Messi is the driving force behind Inter Miami's transformation into a force in the US Major League Soccer.
Ronaldo recently caused controversy when he held a chat with his close friend Piers Morgan. Here, he mentioned many sensitive topics such as declaring that the Saudi Pro League is stronger than European leagues or avoiding failure at the World Cup.
