The Director of the Northern Airport Authority decided to adjust the closing time of Noi Bai airport from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on July 18, instead of 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. as previously planned.
Van Don (Quang Ninh) and Cat Bi ( Hai Phong ) airports will remain closed from 9am to 7pm on July 18.
Speaking to VnExpress on the morning of July 18, Mr. Tran Hoai Phuong, Director of the Northern Airport Authority, explained that the shortening of the time to stop receiving flights from/to Noi Bai airport was due to the fact that the air traffic in the Hanoi area had improved compared to the previous storm forecast. In addition, Noi Bai airport has a large volume of aircraft and high travel demand, so a prolonged closure would affect people's travel plans.
In contrast, Quang Ninh and Hai Phong areas are still directly affected by storm Talim; the number of passengers traveling by plane is also not large.

Yesterday, the Northern Airports Authority decided to close three airports, Noi Bai, Van Don, and Cat Bi, on July 18 due to the direct impact of storm Talim. It is expected that more than 100 flights will be canceled. Of these, Bamboo Airways will cancel 28 flights to the airports and reschedule 104 international and domestic flights.
Vietnam Airlines was also forced to cancel 54 flights, affecting an estimated 8,500 passengers; 89 flights were delayed by 1-10 hours, affecting 15,000 passengers. Vietravel Airlines had to delay the departure time of flights between Hanoi - Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and is expected to take off 2-3 hours later than the original schedule.
Airlines recommend that passengers planning to travel to or from airports in storm-affected areas regularly check weather and information from the airline.
As of 10:00 a.m. on July 18, storm Talim was 60 km from Mong Cai (Quang Ninh), with the strongest wind speed of 102 km/h, level 10, and is expected to enter the Vietnam-China border in the next 1-2 hours.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that storm Talim crossed the Leizhou Peninsula (China) at 3:00 a.m. with the strongest wind speed of 117 km/h, level 11, then entered the coast of Guangxi province (China) and continued to weaken.
The storm is moving west-northwest at a speed of 20 km/h, expected to enter the Vietnam-China border at 11am with the strongest wind speed of 88 km/h, level 9. By 4pm, the storm's center is in the northeast of the North, the wind has decreased to level 7 and weakened into a tropical depression. The tropical depression then continues to move deeper into the northern mountainous region and dissipates early on July 19.
