Mr. Larry Lee said that Sabeco currently operates 26 breweries with many trading companies and thousands of points of sale, the company always considers sustainability as the foundation of all activities. The major challenge in the process of implementing sustainability goals is the gap in technology and costs.

“Sabeco has installed rooftop solar power at 17/26 factories at a significant cost, but we need to focus on long-term benefits - contributing to Vietnam's Net Zero target by 2050 and that benefit is much greater than the cost. We need to be careful and thorough because sustainability is not only a current model but also a future-oriented one,” said a Sabeco representative.

According to him, it is also very important to orient and disseminate regulations related to sustainable development for businesses, in order to ensure that businesses comply and proactively operate within the permitted framework, ensuring strong growth and positive contributions to the country. In addition, it is necessary to build relationships and cooperate with like-minded partners who value sustainable development and aim for common standards.

“With a wide network of partners, Sabeco relies heavily on its partners, including in the supply chain. When partners share the same vision, the burden of cost management becomes lighter because it is shared,” said Mr. Larry Lee.

With the vision of becoming the leading beverage industry group in Vietnam, with a position in the region and internationally, Sabeco's sustainable development strategy aims to maintain balanced development between the ESG pillars of environment, society and governance. Sabeco is committed to promoting sustainable development strategy by identifying and evaluating key topics that impact stakeholders in production and business development activities and priority ESG goals.

Regarding the environment, Sabeco is committed to complying with environmental protection laws, actively participating in responding to climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, focusing on finding solutions and initiatives for continuous improvement to minimize environmental impacts and effectively use resources, raw materials, packaging, energy and water.

It is known that in recent times, in addition to installing rooftop solar power at factories, Sabeco has reduced the amount of water used to produce each liter of beer from 5 liters (in 2018) to less than 3 liters (in 2022); switched to using biomass fuel from plants (such as rice husks, sawdust, cashew shells and leaves) instead of fossil fuel boilers; applied CIP wastewater treatment systems; applied sustainable packaging solutions (thinner cans, lighter cartons and beer bottles) and reused bottles, beer cans... Notably, Sabeco has just joined the Vietnam Packaging Recycling Alliance (PRO Vietnam) to work with businesses to improve the packaging recycling process to be more sustainable in the future...
