Saigon Co.op – the strength of mutual love and support amidst natural disasters and floods

Behind that sustainable operation is the sense of responsibility and affection of hundreds of Saigon Co.op staff - people who are willing to put aside their own worries to accompany the people in the most challenging times. At the same time, the Saigon Co.op Board of Directors and the Saigon Co.op Trade Union always closely follow, give timely instructions, directly visit and encourage the frontline forces, helping the whole system to be more confident and united to overcome difficulties. The spirit of mutual love - the core value of Saigon Co.op - is once again strongly ignited, spreading the warmth of affection in the harsh rainy and flood days.

During the recent storms and flash floods in the South Central region, when many areas were isolated, had power outages, and people's lives faced countless difficulties, Co.opmart supermarkets in the flood-hit areas still steadfastly maintained operations, maintained essential goods sources, and became an important social security support for the community.

Stick to service - Maintain the flow of goods, maintain the trust

During the peak days of floods, when roads were cut off and electricity and water were interrupted, Co.opmarts in Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa, Buon Ma Thuot, etc. still kept their lights on to serve the people. Hundreds of staff temporarily put aside their family affairs – even though their houses were flooded and their children had to be sent to their homes – to stay at their points of sale, ensuring that no one lacked food, water or essential goods.

Although many supermarkets in flooded areas suffered heavy damage due to the flood rising too quickly during the night, having to destroy up to 8 billion VND worth of goods, Co.opmart still prioritized maintaining a stable supply, stabilizing prices and ensuring that essential goods were not disrupted. At the same time, supermarkets continued to provide goods in a timely manner to agencies, the Fatherland Front , disaster prevention forces and volunteer groups, helping relief work to be deployed quickly and synchronously.

In addition to opening their doors to serve customers, many supermarkets have also become temporary shelters for people, providing clean water, supporting device charging, preparing hot meals, and coordinating with local authorities to distribute emergency necessities. These simple but compassionate actions have turned them into “silent heroes” in the midst of the storm and flood.

In recognition of that spirit, Saigon Co.op General Director Pham Trung Kien sent a letter of gratitude to the staff in the flood-hit area, expressing his respect for the "blue shirt heroes" who have steadfastly stuck to their posts for the community. The short but emotional letter has further motivated the frontline forces, spreading the spirit of solidarity and strengthening the belief in the values that Saigon Co.op always pursues: serving the community with the utmost kindness and responsibility.

Accompanying to overcome difficulties - Timely encouragement and sharing

As soon as traffic was reconnected, the Saigon Co.op Board of Directors and the Saigon Co.op Trade Union directly visited Co.opmart Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa, Hue , Nha Trang... to encourage the spirit and reward the collectives and individuals who had made continuous efforts in harsh conditions. A total of 331 officers and employees were affected by the storm and flood, of which 126 cases suffered severe damage; the timely visits of the leaders greatly motivated the frontline forces.

The cooperative spirit of “One for all - All for one” spreads strongly within Saigon Co.op. Co.opmart Hue personally wrapped 300 banh tet and sent them to Quy Nhon, An Nhon, Tuy Hoa as a warm encouragement in the cold rainy season. In Quy Nhon, despite suffering heavy damage from storm No. 13 and the flood on November 18-22, the supermarket's board of directors immediately mobilized staff to Tuy Hoa to support the reopening on the morning of November 23.

Regarding internal support, the system immediately allocated a Mutual Aid Fund with a total budget of more than 1 billion VND to support affected employees; in cases of severe damage and completely collapsed houses, an additional 50 million VND/person was supported to repair the house. At the same time, Saigon Co.op awarded 01 Trade Union Shelter to help a person in difficult circumstances stabilize their housing. Nearly 7 tons of essential goods and household items from the Union office block and Ho Chi Minh City units were also urgently transported to the Central - Central Highlands to help the blue-shirt colleagues feel warm after the storm.
