Samsung Electronics has signed an agreement with European investment firm Triton to acquire a 100% stake in FlaktGroup.

Roh Tae Moon, acting head of the Device Experience (DX) division at Samsung Electronics, said HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) will be an important growth driver for the company in the future. The acquisition of FlaktGroup will help the company better compete with its domestic rival LG Electronics and others in the HVAC market.

This is the most important deal for the Korean tech giant since its $8 billion purchase of Harman International in 2017.

FlaktGroup provides energy-efficient air solutions for a wide range of facilities, including data centers, museums, airports and commercial buildings.

The acquisition of FlaktGroup is part of Samsung Electronics’ broader strategy to secure new growth drivers in the areas of HVAC, robotics, medical technology and audio. The global HVAC market is also forecast to grow from $61 billion in 2024 to $99 billion in 2030, at an annual growth rate of 8%.

Samsung sees strong potential in HVAC, especially as demand for data center solutions increases driven by trends in artificial intelligence, robotics, and automation. The electronics company said in March that its HVAC solutions have seen double-digit annual revenue growth over the past five years.

By integrating building systems with FlaktGroup's HVAC control technologies, Samsung Electronics hopes to improve services and maintenance through a more comprehensive suite of energy management tools.

Samsung has been expanding its HVAC business with a focus on ductless systems for residential and commercial use, while FlaktGroup serves more than 60 major customers, including pharmaceutical, food, biotechnology, beverage and large-scale manufacturing companies.
