Passenger terminal project overview

After two years of construction, the passenger terminal of the Long Thanh International Airport project in Dong Nai has completed the roofing, gradually revealing its architectural appearance inspired by the image of a lotus flower. This is the most important item, considered the "heart" of the entire airport project, with a total investment of up to 35,000 billion VND.

Construction is expected to start in 2023, with construction expected to be completed in 2025 and put into commercial operation in mid-2026. The terminal will consist of one ground floor and three upper floors, with a roof height of over 45 meters and a total floor area of approximately 376,000 square meters.

Detailed construction progress

Currently, the roof of the entire central station and the three "lotus petals" extending outwards are basically complete. Construction teams are focusing on the final stages of the roof and are expected to complete the construction before December 19.

The installation of the glass wall system outside the terminal has also reached about 80% of the volume. According to the construction unit, the total glass area needed to cover the surface of the construction is about 70,000 m². Each glass panel weighs from 350 kg to 900 kg, requiring the support of a specialized crane during the installation process.

Workers are constructing the roof of Long Thanh airport terminal.

In parallel, the installation of 32 telescopic bridges is also being carried out urgently. Hundreds of workers are working on framing, roofing and glazing for the remaining telescopic bridges.

Cranes are lifting components to install a telescopic bridge at the construction site.

Modern interior and technology

Inside the terminal, interior construction work is being carried out simultaneously on all three floors, including ceiling and flooring, construction of functional rooms and installation of a baggage conveyor system. The investor (ACV) said that the process of interior finishing, equipment installation and synchronous testing will be shortened by about 6 months compared to the original contract.

The terminal is designed to meet energy-saving and emission-reducing standards and applies many modern digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), smart parking, non-stop toll collection system, 64 self-check-in counters and biometric check-in.

Inside the station, ceiling frame systems and interior items are being installed.

The security screening area will be equipped with 12 automated screening lanes with facial recognition capabilities, combined with advanced screening and explosive detection systems. The immigration area will also have automated lanes, 3D screens and robotic support to optimize the passenger experience.

Baggage scanners are being installed inside the terminal.

Other important items

In addition to the terminal, other ancillary works are also being accelerated. The 123-meter-high air traffic control tower, with a total investment of 3,500 billion VND, is designed in the shape of a lotus bud in harmony with the terminal. This is a project that ensures safety for all flight operations at the airport.

The first runway has been completed, equipment installed and is ready for operation after flight calibration. The second runway is also expected to have basic construction completed before December 19.

The Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 project has a scale of 1,810 hectares, and was started on January 5, 2021. When put into operation, the airport will have a capacity to serve 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year. Currently, the entire project is mobilizing nearly 14,000 engineers, experts, workers and more than 3,000 pieces of equipment working continuously.
