Vietnam's aviation industry has made a strong impression as the country's two largest gateways, Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai, simultaneously improved their rankings in the Megahubs Index 2025 report by the aviation data organization OAG (UK). This recovery reflects the flexible connectivity between domestic and international flight networks, boosting Vietnam's role as a regional transit hub.
Tan Son Nhat Airport returns to the Top 50 international connecting airports.
In the Megahubs Index 2025 ranking – a list of the 50 airports with the highest level of international connectivity globally – Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) has returned after a two-year absence. The airport in Ho Chi Minh City ranked 45th, up 9 places compared to 2024.
According to data from OAG, Tan Son Nhat Airport has achieved 8,348 valid connections and established a network to 94 global destinations. Of these, Vietnam Airlines holds the largest market share, accounting for 37% of the total flights.

Breaking through in the low-cost carrier (LCC) segment.
Besides the overall international connectivity index, Vietnam also achieved impressive results in the LCC Megahubs category – ranking among the top 25 most connected airports in the world in the low-cost segment. Tan Son Nhat Airport maintained its 19th position, while Noi Bai Airport (HAN) made its first appearance on this list at 25th place.
The development of the two major airports has been significantly contributed by domestic airlines. At Tan Son Nhat, Vietjet Air has sharply increased its share to 33% of the total number of flights. Similarly, at Noi Bai, the airline also leads the low-cost segment with a 32% market share, helping the northern air gateway affirm its position as a regional transit hub.

Vietnam's air transport infrastructure and capacity
The improvement in connectivity is occurring against the backdrop of accelerated aviation infrastructure projects. The Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route continues to be a "backbone" of transportation, ranking among the top 4 busiest domestic routes in the world in terms of seat capacity in 2025.
Below are the basic technical specifications of Vietnam's two largest airports today:
| Technical specifications | Tan Son Nhat Airport | Noi Bai Airport |
|---|---|---|
| Acreage | 1,500 hectares | 815 hectares |
| Design capacity | 50 million passengers/year (after Terminal 3 becomes operational) | 30 million visitors/year |
| Largest airline market share | Vietnam Airlines (37%) | Vietjet Air (32% - LCC segment) |
It is expected that when Terminal 3 at Tan Son Nhat Airport becomes operational in the second quarter of 2025, the airport's service capacity will be optimized, strengthening Ho Chi Minh City's position as an important aviation hub in Southeast Asia, second only to major centers such as Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Bangkok.
