Young mother in Binh Duong gives birth to two baby boys after special hand transplant surgery

SKĐS - On December 8, news from Binh Duong General Hospital said that a pregnant woman who had undergone a temporary hand transplant while pregnant with twins had a successful cesarean section performed by doctors of the Obstetrics Department, giving birth to two healthy baby boys.

Previously, as reported by Health & Life Newspaper, Ms. LNP (20 years old) was hospitalized with her right hand completely severed due to a work accident while pregnant with twins at week 23.

With Ms. P.'s wish to "keep her hand to take care of her child herself", the team of doctors from the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Binh Duong General Hospital, led by Dr. Vo Thai Trung, Deputy Head of Department, as the main surgeon, decided to temporarily transplant the hand to her leg to preserve tissue and ensure the safety of the mother and the two fetuses.

At the 34th week of pregnancy, Dr. Vo Thai Trung and his team continued to perform surgery lasting more than 12 hours to separate the hand from the temporary graft site and reattach it to its original anatomical position.

Dr. Pham Thi Thu Trang, Head of Obstetrics Department - Binh Duong General Hospital, said that the pregnant woman was 36 weeks pregnant. From the night of December 7, the pregnant woman showed signs of early labor: contractions, abdominal pain, and bleeding.

After a period of monitoring, the obstetrician realized that the mother could not give birth naturally. After consulting with the Neonatal Department and the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Department, they decided to perform a cesarean section.

After 30 minutes, the doctors welcomed two baby boys weighing 2,300g and 2,450g respectively. The two babies cried well and were rosy-skinned, then transferred to the Neonatal Department for further monitoring.

Currently, the mother is being monitored in the Obstetrics Department, and the two babies are in stable health and are being cared for in the Neonatal Department.

The health of the mother and children is good and is being monitored and cared for by doctors at Binh Duong General Hospital.
