Dortmund are considering abandoning the Sancho deal. |
According to German media, Dortmund's Sporting Director Ole Gunnar Solskjaer no longer considers Sancho a top target as he once did. Although the English player had a successful spell at Dortmund, the Ruhr-based club is now focusing on building a team with a three-defender formation, a system that requires a more versatile "number 10" rather than a traditional winger.
In this context, Ethan Nwaneri has emerged as Dortmund's priority target. The 19-year-old talent, currently on loan from Arsenal to Marseille, is considered an ideal replacement for Julian Brandt in the future.
Dortmund's management is reportedly in contact to explore the possibility of signing Nwaneri. The young English midfielder has impressed with his creativity, technical ball control, and versatile attacking contributions. He is also the type of player that fits the philosophy the team's coach is building.
However, this deal is not easy. Arsenal still highly value Nwaneri's potential after extending his contract until 2030 last year. The transfer fee demanded by the Gunners is considered quite high, while the possibility of further loaning the player is also unclear.
For Sancho, this is clearly a painful blow to his ambitions of reviving his career. Sancho's contract with MU expires this summer, and it's unlikely the two sides will sign a new one.
