Upcoming Defense Ministry-level workshop to celebrate 60th anniversary of Plei Me Victory

Co-chairing the press conference were Major General Nguyen Xuan Thuy, Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department (General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army); Colonel, Dr. Le Thanh Bai, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Institute of Defense Strategy and History; Dr. Nguyen Huynh Huyen, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee.

According to the plan, the conference will take place on the morning of November 18, at the Hall of the 34th Corps Command (Pleiku Ward, Gia Lai Province). Major General Nguyen Xuan Thuy emphasized that with the theme "Plei Me Victory - Size, significance and historical lessons", the conference aims to affirm the correct strategic policy of the Politburo, the Central Military Commission, and President Ho Chi Minh to direct our army and people to overcome all difficulties and challenges, be ready to defeat the "local war" of the US imperialists, and be determined to bring the cause of national unification to success.

At the same time, through the workshop, valuable historical lessons and experiences on leadership, strategic direction, the art of organizing and practicing campaigns; the process of close coordination and cooperation between forces in campaign operations, applying the building of a regular, elite, modern revolutionary army, building a strong national defense, and developing the country in the new era of the nation.

This is also an educational opportunity for cadres, party members, soldiers and people to promote the tradition of patriotism, self-reliance, and self-strengthening spirit, to strive to compete, and to contribute with the entire Party, people and army to successfully carry out the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

On behalf of the Vietnam Institute of Defense Strategy and History - the standing agency of the Workshop Steering Committee, Colonel Le Thanh Bai said that the main contents of the workshop include: Analysis of the context, international and domestic situation; plots and tricks of the US imperialists and the Saigon puppet regime; capabilities and response measures of the US imperialists and the Saigon puppet regime; US and world public opinion before the attacks of our army and people through each development stage of the Plei Me Campaign.

In addition, the presentations at the workshop also clarified the Party Central Committee's guidelines, viewpoints, and policies in leading and directing the resistance war against the US to save the country; the correct and timely decisions of the Central Military Commission, the General Command, and the Central Highlands Front Command in launching the Plei Me Campaign...

Delegates will also analyze and affirm the important role, strategic significance and fundamental causes for the victory of the Plei Me Campaign; lessons learned on the art of leadership and command of the campaign; large-scale concentrated operations; and creative application to practice in building an all-people national defense and people's war posture in the new era of development of the Vietnamese nation.

Based on the theme of the conference, the Vietnam Institute of Defense Strategy and History has developed a theme and a system of papers with a total of 85 papers, including 80 presentations. The papers are carefully and seriously researched, closely following the content of the conference theme, contributing to clarifying the exploited documents and events with a new, rich, reliable perspective, a scientific and convincing approach and problem-solving method, ensuring good quality.

Attending the workshop were representatives of central departments, ministries, branches and organizations; heads and former heads of the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff, the General Department of Politics; leaders and former leaders of Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee and a number of localities; leaders and commanders of agencies and units under the Ministry of National Defense; scientists, historical witnesses...

Activities on the sidelines of the workshop include visiting and giving gifts to policy families in Pleiku ward, Gia Lai province; offering incense at the Gia Lai province Martyrs Cemetery; and an art program to welcome the workshop.
