Phong Lan Kindergarten, an educational facility in the mountainous commune of Tra Tap, Da Nang city, is facing serious landslides and subsidence at its main campus, threatening the safety of nearly 280 preschool children and its staff and teachers.
Ms. Le Thi Tram, Principal of the school, said that Phong Lan Kindergarten has a total of 11 campuses, including 1 main campus and 10 village campuses, serving nearly 280 students. The main campus, located in village 6, Tra Tap commune, is the residential area and administrative center of the commune.

With an area of nearly 4,000 square meters, the main school is built against the hills, surrounded by households and streams. There are 17 functional rooms, including the principal's office, administrative - management room, kitchen, classrooms, warehouse, and other items. There are currently 2 classrooms with 47 students and 10 staff, teachers and employees regularly working here.
According to Ms. Le Thi Tram, the recent prolonged rain and floods have caused serious signs of landslides and subsidence in the school area. Many parts of the school have been broken, typically the storage room adjacent to the medical room and kitchen has collapsed.
The area in front, close to the school fence, also collapsed, breaking the road and eliminating the entrance to the teachers' housing area. Cracks also appeared in the children's playground, and the fence showed signs of displacement.
In particular, on the right side of the school, adjacent to the stream, along the teachers' motorbike parking area, a crack more than 10cm wide appeared.

“The current physical condition of the main school has greatly affected the morale of staff, teachers, employees and parents. In particular, the organization of teaching and learning for teachers and students faces many difficulties, especially during the rainy season,” Ms. Tram emphasized.
Ms. Tram also added that with the degraded infrastructure, organizing learning and playing activities for children faces many obstacles.
“Teachers must consider carefully to ensure both safety and maintain teaching quality. Therefore, investing in building or expanding schools is essential to ensure safety and better learning conditions for children,” said the Principal of Phong Lan Kindergarten.

Mr. Le Trung Thuc, Chairman of Tra Tap Commune People's Committee, said that the commune has temporarily repaired the landslide at Phong Lan Kindergarten to ensure the safety of students and teachers. The commune has also surveyed the land fund to arrange the construction of a new school, aiming to meet the standards and ensure teaching and learning in the future.
However, Mr. Thuc admitted that the biggest difficulty now is capital. The commune has included the project to build a new Phong Lan school in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026-2030 and reported to the People's Committee of Da Nang city.
"The commune hopes that the city will pay attention and support the reconstruction of this school in the near future to ensure education for children in the commune," informed the Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Tap commune.
