In the capital Belgrade, tens of thousands of protesters blocked a major highway and demanded the resignation of government leaders for allowing a culture of violence that they said led to the killing of 18 people on May 3 and 4.

Protesters also blocked streets in the northern city of Novi Sad, the southern city of Nis and the central Serbian city of Kragujevac.
Protesters also want to revoke the broadcasting licenses of Pink TV and Happy TV channels and ban several tabloid newspapers, which they say promote violence.
Protest leaders have said they will not talk to the government until their demands are met.
Serbia has a long-standing gun culture, with its population possessing large quantities of guns and explosives following the 1990s wars.
Mass shootings, however, were rare until last month.
