Shaw has been incredibly consistent in his performances for Manchester United this season. |
Luke Shaw has a great chance of returning to the England squad after receiving strong support from Michael Carrick. The Manchester United manager believes the 30-year-old left-back fully deserves a place in Thomas Tuchel's 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Shaw hasn't played for England since the EURO 2024 final. However, the 2025/26 season will see an impressive return for the player who has struggled with injuries for many years.
"I definitely think he deserves it," Carrick said when asked about Shaw's potential World Cup appearances. "His consistency, experience, performances and the qualities he possesses make Luke a fantastic full-back."
Luke Shaw is the only Manchester United player to have started all 37 Premier League matches this season. The English defender has played a total of 3,151 minutes, scored in the 3-2 victory against Nottingham Forest on May 17th, and is gradually becoming a crucial link in the system built by Michael Carrick.
According to Carrick, maintaining consistent fitness throughout a season with a packed schedule is not easy in modern football, as injuries can occur at any time. Therefore, he considers Shaw's starting every single Premier League match this season a truly remarkable achievement.
Since joining MU, Shaw has made 324 appearances, scoring 5 goals and providing 30 assists. For England, he has played 34 matches, scoring 3 goals and providing 9 assists.
With his experience in major tournaments and consistent form throughout the season, Shaw is gradually becoming one of England's hard-to-ignore options ahead of the final squad selection.
