On the evening of May 15th, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC will host SHB Da Nang at Binh Duong Stadium in the earliest match of Round 23 of the V-League 2025-2026.
In a crucial match in the relegation battle, SHB Da Nang FC fielded only striker Milan Makaric in the starting lineup instead of the three foreign players allowed by regulations.
Meanwhile, the home team fielded all three of their foreign players. The most regrettable absence for Ho Chi Minh City Police FC was only midfielder Khoa Ngo (Australian), who is still recovering from injury.
Ho Chi Minh City Police FC had a chance to score in the 5th minute but failed to capitalize. Receiving a clear pass from Endrick, Tien Linh sprinted into the penalty area but mishandled the ball, allowing goalkeeper Nguyen Van Toan to easily catch it.
Immediately after this missed opportunity, the home team conceded a goal. Despite having six players in red shirts in the penalty area, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC still allowed Milan Makaric to comfortably control the ball with his chest and volley it into the net to open the scoring.

The conceded goal forced the home team to attack more, but they still couldn't break through SHB Da Nang's defense.
It wasn't until injury time of the first half that Coach Phung Thanh Phuong's team scored from the penalty spot. In an attempt to block Vo Minh Trong's cross, Dang Anh Tuan handled the ball inside the penalty area.
VAR intervened after the incident. Referee Tran Ngoc Nho, after consulting with the VAR referees, upheld the decision. From the penalty spot, Vietnamese-American striker Williams Lee successfully converted the penalty to equalize the score at 1-1 for Ho Chi Minh City Police FC.
In the second half, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC continued to control possession and create more opportunities than the visiting team. However, the goal remained elusive. For example, in the 52nd minute, Hoang Phuc's close-range header went over the crossbar after a pass from Endrick, a truly regrettable miss.
Playing poorly, Tien Linh was substituted by coach Phung Thanh Phuong in the 65th minute. As a result, three minutes later, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC scored. Endrick took a corner kick, and Peter Markrillos headed the ball into the net past goalkeeper Nguyen Van Toan, making the score 2-1.
However, defensive lapses proved costly for Ho Chi Minh City Police FC. In the 74th minute, Vo Nguyen Hoang, surrounded by the home team, comfortably turned and fired a diagonal shot past goalkeeper Le Giang Patrik, leveling the score at 2-2 for SHB Da Nang.
In the 90+3 minute, Vo Nguyen Hoang received his second yellow card and was sent off. However, the remaining time was not enough for the Ho Chi Minh City Police Club to capitalize and score.
By securing one point, SHB Da Nang FC temporarily moved up to 13th place out of 14 teams with 17 points after 23 matches. PVF-CAND also has 17 points but has only played 22 matches, temporarily dropping to the bottom of the table due to losing to the Da Nang team in head-to-head matches.
PVF-CAND will host Hanoi FC at the PVF stadium in round 23 on May 17th.
