After Europe, Shein continues to be entangled in legal trouble in the US
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said on December 1 that he is investigating Shein to determine whether the fast -fashion retailer violated state laws related to unethical labor practices and the sale of unsafe consumer products.
Mr. Paxton said his investigation will focus on whether Shein violated state law by using toxic ingredients or otherwise misled consumers about the safety and transparency of its products. The official said the investigation will also look closely at Shein’s data collection and privacy practices.
Mr Paxton's investigation adds to pressure on Shein, which was embroiled in a scandal last month when France's consumer fraud agency found that some unauthorised products were being sold on its online platform.
France has sought to suspend Shein's operations in the country for three months, while the European Commission (EC) has also asked the company for information to determine whether it poses a "systemic risk" to European consumers. Shein said it is actively cooperating with the EC's request.
The company is headquartered in Singapore but sources most of its goods from China, where it has a network of thousands of suppliers.
