The 2026 Food Safety Action Month will take place from April 15th to May 15th nationwide. Mr. Dang Van Ngoc, Head of the Provincial Market Management Department, stated: Following the theme of the action month, the Department has issued a plan for specialized food safety inspections. This plan focuses on directing subordinate Market Management teams to proactively review and assess the situation in their respective areas; conducting targeted post-inspection checks on production and business establishments dealing with processed foods, pre-packaged foods, etc. In particular, a new initiative implemented by the Market Management force is the organization of food sampling for testing to promptly detect banned substances and substances not on the approved list for use in food processing and preservation. Sampling will focus on several popular consumer goods such as vermicelli, pho, sausages, and ham to check for indicators related to borax, formaldehyde, preservatives, and additives that may pose a health risk to consumers.
Following the directives of the Market Management Department, the subordinate Market Management teams have proactively implemented solutions to promptly detect and prevent violations. Mr. Hoang Viet Duc, Deputy Team Leader of Market Management Team No. 4, said: "There are many food production and business establishments operating in the area under our management. Therefore, the unit has established working groups, strengthened patrols, focused on inspecting and coordinating inspections of compliance with regulations on the origin of goods, food safety conditions, and taking food samples for testing... At the same time, the team has intensified propaganda and guidance for food production and business establishments to ensure food safety in accordance with regulations. From April 15th to the present, the team has inspected 21 cases, penalized 19 violations; the total amount of administrative fines is over 35 million VND."
According to statistics from the Provincial Market Management Department, from April 15th to the present, the Market Management force has inspected and penalized 78 violations of food safety regulations; the total amount of administrative fines is over 272 million VND. The main violations include: food handlers not wearing hats or masks; not using gloves when handling cooked food or ready-to-eat food; and food storage areas lacking adequate shelves and racks. Cumulatively from the beginning of 2026 to the present, the Market Management force has inspected and handled 177 violations of food safety regulations; the total amount of administrative fines is over 808 million VND; and the value of confiscated goods is over 51 million VND. Alongside the inspection process, the authorities also required 69 establishments to sign commitments to strictly comply with food business regulations.
Ms. Quan Tu Hong, owner of a pastry production facility in Ky Lua ward, said: "Recently, our facility has been inspected and guided by authorities on compliance with food safety regulations. As a result, we have seriously addressed the shortcomings and limitations that were pointed out; and we have signed a commitment to strictly adhere to regulations in food production and processing, ensuring product safety before supplying it to the market."
According to the head of the Market Management Department, ensuring food safety is a key task that needs to be carried out regularly and long-term. Therefore, not only during the "Month of Action for Food Safety," but from now until the end of the year, the department will continue to direct its market management teams to strengthen their presence in the area, inspect and control food production and business activities; and effectively implement sample testing to promptly detect and strictly handle violations. At the same time, the department will assign staff to participate in inter-agency food safety inspection teams; coordinate efforts to promote the dissemination of laws and regulations, and raise awareness among organizations, individuals involved in production and business, and consumers about food safety. This will contribute to preventing substandard food from circulating in the market.
Through the synchronized implementation of solutions ranging from inspection and control to public awareness campaigns and handling of violations, the provincial market management force has been gradually improving the effectiveness of food safety assurance in the area. This contributes to protecting consumer health, raising awareness of legal compliance among food production and business establishments, and building a safe and healthy business environment.
