According to published information, Long Thanh International Airport is located in Long Thanh commune, Dong Nai province, about 40 km east of Ho Chi Minh City center. With its strategic location, this airport is oriented to share the exploitation pressure with Tan Son Nhat airport, which is currently overloaded, while meeting the increasing demand for passenger and cargo transportation.
The new airport has the ICAO designation VVLT and the IATA code LTH. The airport is built at an altitude of 60 meters above sea level, with two parallel runways 05R/23L and 05L/23R, meeting international standards. This is considered one of the important highlights, creating the foundation for Long Thanh to operate as a modern aviation center.
According to the plan, Long Thanh airport will be put into operation in two phases. In the first phase, expected from December 2025, the airport will serve technical flights to check and evaluate the entire infrastructure before officially operating. In the next phase, from June 2026, Long Thanh will officially welcome commercial flights.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that all detailed information related to operations will be published in the AIRAC AIP Supplement, expected to take effect from June 11, 2026. This is an important basis for domestic and foreign airlines to plan operations, ensuring safe and synchronous operations.
Any changes related to this plan will be updated and announced promptly by the Department in the next aviation news announcements. This is to ensure transparency and at the same time create favorable conditions for aviation operators to proactively adjust their operations.
Reporting to the Prime Minister on the exploitation plan of Long Thanh and Tan Son Nhat airports, the Ministry of Construction said that according to the feasibility study report on the investment project to build Long Thanh airport phase 1 approved by the Prime Minister in 2020, the exploitation plan of these two airports has been determined according to the model of a pair of international airports operating simultaneously, with the state proactively coordinating and determining the ratio of international and domestic exploitation at each port in each period.
According to this plan, Long Thanh airport will handle 80% of international flights and 10% of domestic flights. Tan Son Nhat airport will handle 20% of international flights and 90% of domestic flights.
