Vingroup is mobilizing thousands of workers and machinery to work in "3 shifts, 4 teams" to achieve its goal of finishing in July 2027, in less than 20 months, aiming to become the fastest-built stadium in the world, breaking all records in the history of the global construction industry.
The massive construction site mobilized all resources, accelerating progress day and night.
Having lived in Thuong Phuc commune, Hanoi for 60 years, Mr. Pham Ngoc Phan has never seen his hometown change as rapidly as it is now. Just five months ago, the area was a vast expanse of land covered only in grass and water, but now it's a massive construction site, brightly lit all night long. Long lines of trucks carrying materials, machinery operating non-stop, and gigantic grandstands rising higher each day.
“Sometimes, when you wake up in the morning, the construction site looks completely different from the day before. The roads are being built very quickly, and the grandstands are getting taller and taller. Everyone around here is surprised by the incredibly fast pace of construction,” Mr. Phan recounted.

Construction began on December 19, 2025, and after exactly five months, the entire stadium site and auxiliary facilities have been leveled. The internal transportation system and main connecting routes are approximately 80% complete. The pile driving for the main structure is finished, while the foundation and first-floor slab are about 70% complete. The reinforced concrete grandstands are gradually taking shape.

In June, the project will install the steel roof support structure – the most complex part. Vingroup aims to complete the roof by May 2027, before the entire project is finished in July of the same year, meaning it will only take 20 months to complete.
Simultaneously, a series of satellite projects are also being prepared for simultaneous implementation, such as a hotel of approximately 30 floors, a large-scale hospital with a sports medicine department, a complex of tennis and pickleball courts, and a 120-meter-wide boulevard directly connecting to the main traffic arteries in southern Hanoi.

Hung Vuong Stadium covers an area of 73.3 hectares, four times larger than My Dinh National Stadium (17.5 hectares). With a capacity of 135,000 seats, upon completion it will be the largest stadium in the world and will meet the standards to host major international sporting events such as the World Cup, Olympics, or ASIAD. The project is designed according to FIFA standards, inspired by the Dong Son bronze drum and the Lac bird – two symbols with strong identifying power over Vietnam's history and culture.
According to Mr. Nguyen Phu Quan, Director of the Hung Vuong Stadium Construction Project Management Board, the construction site currently maintains more than 5,000 workers working continuously day and night. During the upcoming peak phase, the workforce will increase to approximately 9,000-10,000 people, implementing a "3 shifts, 4 teams" model across all project components.

Behind the rapid pace of construction lies a massive volume of work. The project management board stated that approximately 700,000 cubic meters of concrete will be used, equivalent to 70,000 large truckloads. The total volume of reinforcing steel and steel for major structural elements (roofs, facade systems) amounts to 126,000 tons, while the formwork area reaches 1.7 million square meters, enough to cover nearly 250 FIFA-standard football fields.
The construction site also deployed approximately 1 million coupler connections – a modern steel joining technology commonly found in international mega-projects – to increase construction speed and structural accuracy.
The biggest challenge lay in the massive steel roof structure spanning up to 260m – a feature never before seen in Vietnam. With the construction time shortened to less than two years, the entire site had to operate on a "total effort" model, working 24/7.

"The pace of construction of Hung Vuong Stadium is unprecedented."
Around the world, stadiums with a capacity of over 100,000 seats typically take 3-6 years to complete. The Narendra Modi Stadium (India), with a capacity of approximately 132,000 seats – one of the largest in the world today – took nearly 5 years of new construction and comprehensive renovation before its inauguration in 2020.
Michigan Stadium (USA), with over 107,000 seats, also underwent several expansion phases spanning decades to reach its current size. Rungrado 1st of May Stadium – North Korea's famous 114,000-seat facility – was built in approximately four years.
According to Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Quang, a materials science expert at Hanyang University (Seoul, South Korea), compared to the scale and complexity of national iconic projects, the progress of Hung Vuong Stadium construction is considered "lightning fast." This is an unprecedented case in the field of sports infrastructure in Vietnam and the world.

Dr. Quang believes that to achieve this "mega-project" goal, the investor must simultaneously possess three core competencies: the ability to mobilize large-scale resources; management capabilities and experience in implementing mega-projects; and credibility to mobilize and coordinate contractors and thousands of personnel across the entire construction site.
Behind the phenomenal progress of this historic project lies the involvement of numerous leading construction and industrial enterprises in Vietnam. Vincons plays a pivotal role within Vingroup's construction ecosystem. Dai Dung handles the oversized steel structures. Other renowned contractors include VinAlpha, SGC, and others.
"For a project to run at a very high speed, the cash flow of billions of USD must be smooth, and the commitment to the schedule must be strong enough for the contractor to be ready to mobilize all the best resources," Mr. Quang added. According to the expert, not many businesses in Vietnam can meet these criteria.

In fact, this is not the first time Vingroup has made its mark with "super-fast" projects. Previously, the 335-hectare VinFast Hai Phong factory was completed in just about 21 months of construction. Most recently, the Vietnam Exhibition Center, one of the top 10 in the world, was also completed in 10.5 months.
With the planned completion of the 135,000-seat Hung Vuong Stadium in just 20 months, Vingroup promises to continue breaking all records in the history of the global construction industry, affirming the top position and capabilities of Vietnamese businesses worldwide.
