Finding livelihood opportunities from natural advantages.
For many years, the livelihoods of the people of Nhon Chau have mainly depended on fishing. However, faced with difficulties from the weather and the pressure of making a living at sea, the locality is seeking new directions by taking advantage of the unique natural conditions of the island commune.
From the beginning of 2026, pilot models for raising sand lizards (also known as island lizards) and hill chickens (island chickens) will be implemented, opening up the prospect of diversifying income sources for the people.
With its sandy hills and hot, dry climate characteristic of coastal and island areas, Nhon Chau is considered suitable for developing a sand lizard farming model. This species adapts well to the hot, dry environment, is less susceptible to disease, and the breeding costs are not too high. Meanwhile, utilizing the natural hillsides, the free-range chicken farming model allows the chickens to move around more, resulting in firm, flavorful meat that meets market demands.

During the implementation of the "island chicken" farming model, the locality received support from CP Vietnam Livestock Corporation. By the end of 2025, this company will provide 2,000 chicks to the people of the island commune to develop livestock farming.
Mr. Ho Ngoc Tai, Human Resources Director of CP Livestock Joint Stock Company in the Central and Central Highlands regions, shared: “In addition to supporting breeding stock, the company also focuses on transferring technology, helping people change their mindset towards more systematic and sustainable livestock farming. When people have a stable source of livelihood, community tourism models will also have the conditions to develop more synchronously; thereby contributing to socio-economic development.”
Not content with just "island lizards" and "island chickens," Nhon Chau island commune is also researching many new models to diversify local products and create more experiences for tourists.
Increase the attractiveness of experiential services for tourists.
Nhon Chau's greatest advantage lies in its pristine landscape, clean environment, and the peaceful lifestyle of its island residents. These are considered crucial factors for the local area to develop unique experiential tourism products.

Currently, the commune has many attractive tourist and picnic spots such as Nho Beach, Bon Beach, Nam Beach, Dong Beach, Thao Nguyen rocky beach; along with scenic viewpoints at Vung Tron, Hon Ket Cape, the lighthouse, the Youth Flagpole, or the Fairy Chessboard...
In addition, many tourism activities related to the lives of fishermen, such as pushing basket boats and fishing, have been developed to serve tourists. These experiences allow visitors not only to admire the beautiful scenery but also to immerse themselves in the daily life of the island's inhabitants.

Ms. Huynh Thi My Tien (a tourist from Dong Nai) shared: “I am very impressed with the crystal-clear seawater, the peaceful atmosphere, and the pristine landscape here. This is my first time visiting an island commune like Nhon Chau, so it feels very new and exciting, especially the experiential activities related to the lives of the local people.”
According to Mr. Duong Hiep Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhon Chau commune, the locality is continuing to research breeding and experimental cultivation of the giant My Tho winter melon on the island. At the same time, many characteristic products such as wild pineapple juice, dried wild pineapple, and handicrafts made from seashells are also being creatively developed by the people to serve tourism.
"Although it's still in its early stages, the combination of developing production models, services, and experiential tourism is opening up many promising avenues for Nhon Chau. We will create more products with the unique identity of the island commune, thereby contributing to improving the lives of the people and creating more distinctive features to attract tourists to Nhon Chau," Mr. Hung said.
