On the evening of November 28, the University of Finance and Marketing issued an urgent notice, requesting parents and students to absolutely not transfer any tuition fees to their personal bank accounts, after recording many students receiving text messages impersonating school officials to scam them.
Impersonating school officials to ask students to transfer money to reduce tuition fees
According to the students, on the same afternoon, a social media account named Nguyen Minh Hung sent a message claiming to be an officer of the finance department. This person asked the students to provide their full name, student ID number and permanent address to receive "support to reduce tuition fees due to storms and floods".
After asking about the tuition fee students had to pay, the subject sent back a personal account number named "Ho Thanh Phuong", with instructions: "After paying, send the receipt so the teacher can confirm and update the system."
The subject also urged students to transfer money immediately "to compile the list in time".
Many students said the impostor promised a 10% discount on tuition if they transferred money as instructed.
When the student provided information about the tuition fee, this person texted back a 10% discount and asked the student to transfer the tuition fee.
When the student asked if the tuition fee needed to be paid immediately, this person requested: "Pay immediately so the teacher can compile the list, otherwise it will take a long time to wait for the system to update…".
The school does not require students to transfer tuition fees to personal accounts.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Master Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, in charge of the school's admissions, communications and corporate relations department, confirmed that this was a scam: "The school never asks students to transfer tuition fees to their personal accounts. All tuition fee notifications, exemptions or support are made through the school's official system."
Ms. Phung said that the approval of tuition exemptions, natural disaster support, etc. are all implemented via school email, UIS system and official communication channels. Functional departments monitor and update students directly; there is no form of private messaging to collect money.
Previously, the University of Finance and Marketing announced a support policy for students affected by floods in three localities: Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa.
Full-time students of courses 22D, 23D, 24D, 25D with permanent residence in the above provinces will receive a 10% reduction in tuition fees for semester 1, 2026 (calculated based on actual expenses incurred in semester 1, 2026). The reduction will be automatically deducted directly from the UIS system; students do not need to do anything or send information to any individual.
In addition, the school also extended the deadline for paying tuition fees for semester 1, 2026 to February 28, 2026 for this group of students.
The school recommends that students be vigilant, not provide personal information and absolutely not transfer money without checking information through the school's official channels.
