Taking place in the capital city of Tehran (Iran), this is a cybersecurity competition where teams compete with realistic simulations of computer security. The competition is organized by the Iranian Government on a large and professional scale, attracting 12,000 contestants from 65 countries to participate (double that of 2024), bringing together more than 1,100 technology experts from 16 countries.
DTU - 4lias team including 4 members Nguyen Ba Khanh, Le Khac Huy (Information Security major), Vo Tuan Anh (Network Engineering major), Nguyen Tri Tam (master's student in Information Security) became the sole representative of Vietnam at the final round of Iran Tech Olympics CTF 2025.
The participating teams compete in the main categories: AI, cybersecurity, programming, robotics, drones, and the internet of things. Of these, cybersecurity is considered the most intense direct “intellectual arena”, requiring strategic thinking, high technical skills, and strong team spirit.
In the competition, each team must defend their own system while attacking their opponent's system to capture the flag and score points. Each team is provided with a server containing services with security vulnerabilities, forcing them to quickly analyze, patch, and exploit and attack the weaknesses of other teams to gain an advantage in the competition.
According to Nguyen Ba Khanh - Team Leader, right from the start, Team DTU - 4lias quickly divided tasks for the team members. One person was in charge of analyzing vulnerabilities and defending the system, the other group focused on attacking, searching and capturing the flag.
As the difficulty increases, team members try to maintain stable performance, both maintaining high server uptime and ensuring effective attacks.
Thanks to that, the team surpassed many strong opponents to rank top 5/27 in the whole table and top 1 in the international team block. This is considered a proud achievement of the student group because the remaining teams all come from businesses or professional organizations in the field of cyber security.
Ba Khanh shared that participating in the competition was a very special experience. The group got to meet, compete and learn from many strong teams from all over the world . This helped Khanh and the members broaden their perspectives and thinking to build new strategies.
As the direct leader of Team DTU - 4lias, Master Nguyen Nhat Hoang, lecturer of the Department of Information Security, Faculty of Computer Network Engineering & Communications, School of Computer Science (Duy Tan University) said that participating in the big competition, the team members showed their bravery, solid knowledge base and serious and professional competitive spirit.
The team's achievements show that Vietnamese students in general and Duy Tan University in particular can confidently compete with experts and engineers from the world's leading technology corporations.
