Number of dengue fever cases in Thailand at alarming level

According to the Thai Ministry of Health , since the beginning of the year, the country has recorded more than 19,000 cases and 17 deaths from dengue fever.

The Thai Ministry of Public Health said that the rate of dengue fever infection in the country since the beginning of the year is 4.2 times higher than the same period last year. The provinces and cities with the most dengue fever cases recorded so far are Bangkok, Trat, Nan, Chanthaboury, Rayong and Mae Hong Son. Statistics show that children aged 5 to 14 are the most susceptible group, followed by those aged 15 to 24.

Amid a surge in dengue cases, the Thai Ministry of Public Health has set up an emergency operations center to prevent the spread of the disease. More than 1 million health volunteers nationwide will also be involved in responding to outbreaks of the mosquito-borne disease.

According to the Thai Ministry of Health, the initial symptoms of dengue fever are similar to those of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, according to Thai health experts, climate change, including the El Nino phenomenon, will cause the number of dengue fever cases in the country to increase in the next two years.
