After an earthquake, a Turkish man decided to move to live in a cave in the mountains.

Ali Bozoglan in Türkiye, moved to live in a mountain cave since 2023.

Ali turned the cave into a miniature house with some basic furniture. He is satisfied with his current life because it is close to nature. Although he could not convince his family to live with him, Ali said he still feels happy even though he has to live alone.

“I lived here for two years after the earthquake and found peace in this cave,” Ali shared.

In 2023, southern Türkiye was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that killed tens of thousands of people and flattened entire neighborhoods. Ali’s family, who lived in Hatay province, was lucky to escape. Although he was unharmed, the shock left him feeling unsafe in his ordinary home.

After losing his entire home, he decided to move to a quiet cave in the suburbs of the city, enjoying a peaceful life, away from the hustle and bustle.

Ali's unique lifestyle has earned him the nickname "prehistoric man". Ali believes that living in a cave is the right thing to do because it is very safe. He said that this cave has existed for thousands of years and has never collapsed even in an earthquake.

He also refused an offer from the government to move to a temporary house in the city. Sharing about life in the cave, Ali said he washed dishes, washed clothes, cleaned and prepared food himself.

“I have a wonderful life in the cave. I stay away from people and immerse myself in nature. People who don't understand often talk badly about me just because I choose to live in the cave, they don't sit with me, don't talk to me, don't know anything about me but still make negative comments," Ali added.

Ali admits that living in the cave has its challenges, especially when faced with "uninvited guests" such as snakes and rats. However, he has learned to live in harmony with them.

What he wants most is clean water and a proper toilet. Ali's next plan in the near future is to install solar panels to generate electricity for the washing machine and refrigerator.
