Vietnam futsal team continues to thrive?
The Vietnamese futsal team has qualified for the semi-finals of the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, after winning Group A with an all-win record. Coach Diego Raul Giustozzi and his team defeated Thailand (3-2), Malaysia (2-0), Brunei (14-0) and Timor Leste (4-1), accumulating a full 12 points after 4 matches.
With impressive form, the Vietnamese futsal team is expected to overcome the obstacle named Australia. The semi-final match between Vietnam and Australia will take place at 3pm today (November 8). In the remaining match, Thailand will meet Indonesia at 6pm the same day.

Although very strong in 11-a-side football, Australia is not a team with a rich tradition in futsal. In the group stage, Coach Miles's students drew with Myanmar (3-3), lost to Indonesia (1-3) and beat Cambodia (9-2), finishing second overall. In the history of participating in the Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, Australia has never won the championship, although it has reached the final four times.
The history of confrontation is overwhelmingly in favor of the Vietnamese futsal team. In the last 3 times meeting Australia, Pham Duc Hoa and his teammates won all 3 times, scoring 12 goals against their opponents. Looking at the performance in the group stage, it can be said that Australia has improved, but not much. The team from the land of kangaroos is strong in attack with 25 goals in the last 8 matches, but is weak in defense with 28 goals conceded in the same period. Discipline and the ability to maintain concentration are Australia's weaknesses that the Vietnamese futsal team can exploit.
The good news for the Vietnamese futsal team is that the players' performance has improved with each match. On the opening day, coach Giustozzi and his team were held to a 1-1 draw by Timor Leste, then broke through at the end of the match to score 3 goals in a row.

In the match against Malaysia, Vietnam also drew 0-0 after the first half, then scored 2 goals in a row thanks to taking advantage of good opportunities. In the match against Thailand, the comeback showed Vietnam's current strength, which is the ability to create breakthroughs thanks to new and energetic factors, so they can play in many different ways, effectively adapting to the situation in the match.
What did the two teams' coaches say?
The Vietnamese futsal team will reach the final after 12 years of waiting if they overcome Australia. Coach Giustozzi affirmed that the players are in good spirits before the crucial match.
"For us, the group stage has ended and now it's the semi-finals, both Vietnam and Australia want to win to reach the final. I think the lack of motivation to fight at this point is completely impossible. My players are in better spirits than ever," coach Giustozzi affirmed.
Australian coach Downie affirmed: "The Australian futsal team needs to prepare very carefully. We have a few injuries, but it is not a big deal. The players are fit enough to play. The match against Vietnam is a matter of life and death, so we have to play with all our abilities."
