Early commencement of resettlement areas of Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong Railway Project

Lao Cai province has just approved the construction of three resettlement areas in Gia Phu commune, to stabilize the lives of people whose land is being recovered to serve the construction of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project.

Up to now, 2 resettlement areas have been submitted for appraisal, 1 area has had its project approved and is selecting a contractor. Gia Phu Commune People's Committee is actively coordinating with relevant agencies to complete procedures to soon start the projects.

The Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project passes through Gia Phu commune with a length of about 12.8 km. The planned area for site clearance is about 95.5 hectares, affecting 451 households and individuals, of which 153 households have houses and land. Therefore, the construction of resettlement areas is extremely necessary to help people stabilize their lives soon.

After the merger, Gia Phu commune must complete a large amount of land clearance and resettlement for the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong railway project, including part of the old Lao Cai city and more than half of the former Bao Thang district. To date, the commune has completed the census and counting of 300/451 households, reaching 66.5% of the plan.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Binh, Chairman of Gia Phu Commune People's Committee said: "Although after the merger, the commune has to deal with a huge amount of work, the local Party Committee and government have determined that site clearance and resettlement to serve the construction of the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong Railway Project is one of the top priority tasks."
