'Song Lang' wins Ho Chi Minh City Film Award, Philippines wins HIFF 'Golden Star'

At the closing night of the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival (HIFF), the space outside the Ho Chi Minh City Theater became a magnificent stage with 3D mapping technology, creating a beautiful and impressive highlight for city residents and visitors.

The closing night art program with the theme Time Travel was directed by Tran Vi My and was luxurious and modern, with a combination of pop music , orchestral symphony and choir conducted by conductor Tran Nhat Minh.

Famous movie soundtracks such as Song of the Southern Land (film Southern Forest Land ), songs from the films LaLaLand, Feeling Good (film Perfect Day ) and Never Enough (film The Greatest Showman ), the theme song of the HIFF Festival Xin Chao were performed by People's Artist Trong Phuc, singer Ho Trung Dung, Thao Trang, MTV group, Vu Thao My.

On the closing night, the Organizing Committee and the Jury announced the results of the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival, with the main awards given to:

The Best Southeast Asian Film is The Gospel of the Beast from the Philippines with the HIFF 2024 Golden Star trophy.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nen (right cover) - Member of the Politburo , Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Mr. Jeremy Segay - French Cultural Attaché for Southeast Asia, member of the HIFF Advisory Board presented the award for Best Southeast Asian Film.

The first and second feature films were awarded the same excellent category by only 0.1 points: The Night Delivery Man (Saudi Arabia) and Soul of the Wind (Mongolia).

Best short film goes to The Story of Leila from Sweden.

Films voted by the Jury: The Dark Before Dawn produced by Singapore - Japan - Slovenia (Southeast Asian Film) and Strange Game by Argentina (Short Film).

Ho Chi Minh City Film Award went to the film Song Lang by director Leon Le (Vietnam).

The best individual awards were given to: Director Chee Sum Chia of the film Ladders of Sharing , Cinematography: Hedeho Urata of Singapore for the film The Dark Before Dawn , and Film Editing: Hendra Adhi Sussanto of the film 13 Detonators.

Visual effects: Laokoon VFX in The Dark Before Dawn , Design: Jean-Sien Kin Keico Katahira of Cambodia in The Borrowed Body , Sound: Wahyu Tri Pournomo of 13 Detonators , Soundtrack: Yuji Wantanabe of The Blue Hope.

Best Screenplay went to screenwriter Nicole Midosi Woodford for The Dark Before Dawn .

The closing night also brought the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival to a close with many regrets in the hearts of international and domestic guests, and the cinema-loving public, in the true sense of "8 days of joy passed quickly". HIFF took place from April 6 to 13 with many exciting activities to help Ho Chi Minh City truly "live" with cinema. If the highlight of the opening night was "Vietnamese Identity", the closing night will be "Future Cinema - Future Cinema" discussing the future of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian cinema; affirming the position and rapid development of Ho Chi Minh City's cinema and Vietnamese cinema in the context of international integration.

In addition to the main awards presented at the closing night, HIFF previously presented other awards. Project Market with the award for Best Commercial Film Project awarded to Green Valley and the Amber Marbles - directed by Vu Nguyen Nam Khue, produced by Pham Minh Hang; Best Art-house Film Project awarded to Other People's Dream - directed by Daniel Hui, produced by Sophia Sim and Si En Tan; Best Film Project voted by CNC judges: Imah - The Last Time I Saw Your Face - directed by Eddie Cahyono, produced by Li Xiaorong.

The Script Incubator (VietScript Lab) awarded first prize in the TV Drama category to screenwriter Quan Phuong Thanh with the work Chuan com me noi; first prize in the Movie category to screenwriter Phuong Anh Dang with the work The story is called faith.
