The Sun reports that Chelsea are hoping to recoup around £20m from the deal. The Blues want to sell Sterling outright in the summer of 2025 rather than let him leave on loan.
Chelsea want to offload Sterling to reduce the England striker's salary of up to 325,000 pounds per week. The current contract between the two parties is valid until June 2027.
In the 2024/25 season, Sterling was loaned to Arsenal from Chelsea. He scored only 1 goal in 28 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners. Sterling's poor form made Arsenal decide not to sign him on a long-term contract.
The 30-year-old is now back at Chelsea and training with players who are not in the team's plans.
Sterling joined Chelsea in 2022 from Man City for £50m, but his career has been on the decline since moving to Stamford Bridge. Sterling struggled in his first two years at Chelsea, even being booed by the home fans in some games.
Sterling took part in pre-season under Enzo Maresca last summer, but was left out of Chelsea's plans by the Italian.
The arrival of three new players, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens, has reduced Sterling's chances of playing. Chelsea have also just sold another striker, Noni Madueke, to Arsenal for £52 million. Even striker Nicolas Jackson has been put up for sale.
