At Rajamangala Stadium on the afternoon of December 3, Coach Kim Sang-sik was the most dissatisfied person and did not hesitate to show it clearly with a grim expression throughout almost the entire match. The peak of Mr. Kim's emotions was the situation where the linesman raised the flag to signal offside for Dinh Bac's second goal in the 60th minute. He immediately rushed over like a gust of wind and yelled at the referee and received a yellow card. Fortunately, after being advised by his assistant and VFF officials, Mr. Kim and captain Van Khang successfully persuaded referee Rustam Lutfullin to recognize the goal that sealed the 2-1 victory for U.23 Vietnam. In fact, before that, Mr. Kim had exploded once in the locker room at halftime, frankly telling the whole team about his dissatisfaction, helping U.23 Vietnam come back stronger in the second half.

Next match schedule of U.23 Vietnam
Mr. Kim expressed: "This is the first match of U.23 Vietnam at SEA Games 33. I feel the players are a bit nervous because the first match is always difficult. U.23 Laos is progressing rapidly but the coaching staff has carefully analyzed their playing style. I clearly expressed to the whole team my disappointment about the first half, including the equalizer just a few minutes after we opened the score. U.23 Vietnam came back stronger in the second half, but I am not satisfied with the 2-1 win. Hopefully U.23 Vietnam will play better in the next match. Anyway, we have 3 important points. U.23 Vietnam will focus on recovering and preparing best for the match against U.23 Malaysia".

For his part, head coach of Laos U23 Ha Hyeok-jun entered the press conference with a bright smile but could not hide his regret. It was clear that his extremely humble statement before the match was just a psychological trick when they almost drew with Vietnam U23. The Laos U23 players played a great match in terms of spirit, persistently clinging to the game throughout the match, even pressuring Vietnam U23 in the end of the second half.
Mr. Ha did not go into the argument when the main referee confirmed Dinh Bac's double, instead expressing pride in the more than 90 brave minutes of U.23 Laos against the stronger U.23 Vietnam. Mr. Ha said: "I believe that the players tried their best throughout the match, until the last minutes. The result was not as expected, it was a pity, but I am really proud of the way my students fought for the country. I believe that U.23 Vietnam is still strong and will become even stronger. But U.23 Laos is also developing well, making a difference compared to the most recent match against U.23 Vietnam (losing 0-3 in the group stage of the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament). Actually, U.23 Vietnam is still much stronger than us, but we are trying to narrow the gap even more, for the next meeting."
Due to the arrangement of the match schedule, U.23 Vietnam will not have the next match at SEA Games 33 until December 11. The team will meet U.23 Malaysia also at 4:00 p.m. at Rajamangala Stadium.
