The Japanese auto market has recently found a new owner for the title of "Car of the Year Japan" (JCOTY). Overcoming fierce competition from Honda Prelude and Toyota Crown Estate, the Subaru Forester SUV was honored in the highest position, marking the full return of the Pleiades constellation brand.

The Subaru Forester’s victory this season is particularly significant, as it is the first time in five years that Subaru has won this prestigious title. The last time the Japanese automaker won the award was in 2020 with the Levorg Sportswagon.

According to the evaluation of the Japan Car of the Year Committee, the Forester Hybrid version completely conquered the jury thanks to its ability to harmoniously combine strong performance and family practicality. The car not only brings comfort on long journeys but also possesses impressive off-road capabilities, while still maintaining the strict safety standards that are the identity of Subaru.

Technically, the 2025 Forester continues to inherit the famous Subaru Global Platform global chassis platform, which helps increase rigidity, reduce vibration and optimize stability when moving at high speeds. The S-AWD symmetrical four-wheel drive system is also refined to distribute traction more accurately. In addition, the new generation X-Mode off-road driving mode and EyeSight active safety system with wide-angle camera and advanced recognition algorithm have helped this model score absolute points in terms of technology and safety.

Coming in second place in this year's race was the Honda Prelude.

Coming in second place in this year's race is the Honda Prelude, a small sports car. In its latest generation, the Prelude is considered a "rebirth" in the form of a sports compact hybrid. Honda has succeeded in creating a car that satisfies the feeling of exciting driving while meeting the trend of fuel economy and environmental friendliness.

To achieve this, Honda not only refined the powertrain and chassis, but also applied a series of key technologies in traction control and steering. The new aerodynamic design with a low center of gravity and optimal weight distribution helps the driver feel a direct connection with the road. The runner-up position affirms that Honda still maintains its distinctive sporty identity even on modern hybrid electric vehicles.

Right behind the Honda is the luxury Toyota Crown Estate in third place.

Coming in at number three right after the Honda is the Toyota Crown Estate luxury car. This is proof of Toyota's correct strategy in redefining the legendary Crown line in a more versatile direction. A hybrid variant between a wagon and an SUV, the Crown Estate uses a hybrid powertrain combined with a specially tuned suspension system. The car offers the classy smoothness of a luxury sedan but still ensures the necessary rigidity when carrying loads or operating at high speeds.
