Khanh Hoa's marine economic and high-tech agricultural resilience

Khanh Hoa's Agriculture and Environment sector has achieved many achievements over the past 80 years, contributing to the goal of turning the province into a centrally-run city by 2030.

Over the past years, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Khanh Hoa province has made many important contributions to socio- economic development, making agriculture and environment an important pillar of the provincial economy. From production thinking to agricultural economics

With the motto of action "Solidarity, democracy, discipline, responsibility, breakthrough, development", Khanh Hoa Agriculture and Environment sector has achieved many proud milestones.

The average annual growth rate of agricultural, forestry and fishery production value has always been maintained at 2-3%/year, the economic structure of the sector has shifted strongly towards increasing value, reducing the proportion of traditional agriculture, rapidly increasing the fisheries sector and rural services. In particular, the agricultural sector has strongly shifted from agricultural production thinking to agricultural economic thinking, associated with high technology application and sustainable development.

In cultivation, the province has formed specialized areas, applied water-saving irrigation, greenhouses, VietGAP, organic and developed production - processing - consumption chains.

Khanh Hoa has supported the issuance of 170 growing area codes (over 5,209 hectares), of which 68 codes are for export to the United States, New Zealand, Australia, China, and the EU. The livestock sector has also changed positively in the direction of developing farm scale, applying high technology and practicing biosafety farming.

Marine economy is one of the province's bright spots. Total aquatic product output is continuously increasing, estimated to reach 276 thousand tons in 2025. Khanh Hoa's aquatic product export turnover in 2024 will reach more than 845.9 million USD, ranking among the top 5 provinces in the country in aquatic product export. In particular, aquaculture continues to develop strongly in a modern and sustainable direction with many high-tech marine farming models using HDPE and FRP cages.

Decision No. 231/QD-TTg dated January 24, 2025 of the Prime Minister approving the pilot project on high-tech marine aquaculture development is a historical milestone, creating a strong driving force for the province to form concentrated industrial marine aquaculture areas.

In addition, the management of natural resources and environment is focused. The forest coverage rate of the whole province is maintained at 47%. Many key irrigation projects have been invested, contributing to improving irrigation capacity. The rate of rural households using clean water that meets standards is 86.7%. Environmental work has also achieved many clear results, the environmental quality is stable, there are no more establishments causing serious environmental pollution. The rate of urban waste collection is 99.5%, rural waste is over 85% and 100% of industrial zones have standard wastewater treatment systems.

Two major emulation movements have brought a new look to Khanh Hoa countryside. Up to now, the whole province has 28/48 communes meeting new rural standards and 4 communes meeting advanced new rural standards. In particular, the movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" has become a bright spot of the province when it completed 100% of the set target, eliminating 3,509 temporary/dilapidated houses, 1 month ahead of the province's plan and 5 months ahead of the Government's plan.

These achievements have been recognized by the Party and the State, typically the Prime Minister awarded the "Government Emulation Flag" to the collective with outstanding achievements in the movement "The whole country joins hands to build new rural areas" in the period 2021 - 2025.

Making Khanh Hoa a centrally-governed city

The above achievements are a solid foundation for Khanh Hoa province to enter a new development phase with the strategic goal of turning the province into a centrally-run city by 2030 in the spirit of Resolution 09 of the Politburo.

To achieve that goal, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Khanh Hoa province identifies the key role of the industry, shifting from agricultural production thinking to agricultural economy associated with services, tourism and considering the environment as a vital factor for sustainable development.

In the period of 2026 - 2030, Khanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Environment focuses on 4 key tasks. First, develop agriculture in depth, promote high-tech agriculture. Strive to bring the production value on cultivated land to 180 million VND/ha, 1 billion VND/ha for high-tech agriculture.

Second, taking the marine economy as a breakthrough, focusing resources on developing high-tech aquaculture at sea associated with ecosystem protection, making Khanh Hoa the center of aquatic breeds and marine aquaculture industry of the whole country.

Third, environmental protection is a top priority. The industry is determined to maintain and improve environmental indicators, striving to achieve a forest coverage rate of over 47% by 2030, 99.6% of domestic solid waste and hazardous waste to be collected and treated, ensuring a green - clean - beautiful environment for an international tourist city.

Fourth, continue to promote digital transformation in land, water resources, and mineral management, ensuring publicity and transparency, serving people and businesses better and better.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Khanh Hoa province believes that under the leadership of the Party and the State, the department will continue to reap more successes.
