Cao Bang's new appeal

While Cao Bang's tourism appeal used to be its famous revolutionary relics, pristine natural beauty, and friendly people, today, the focus on honoring the cultural identities of ethnic minorities has further enhanced the destination's attractiveness, gradually becoming the "soul" of its tourism products.

In addition, the quality of tourism services is constantly improving, creating a strong impetus for the local tourism industry.

Service quality and identity

Mr. Jean Maco, a French tourist, shared: "During our trip to Vietnam, my wife and I chose Khuoi Han Ecolodge in Nung Tri Cao ward, Cao Bang province, as our destination, and we were not disappointed with the delicious food and the experience of the unique culture of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups in Cao Bang. If I return to Vietnam, Khuoi Han Ecolodge will still be my choice."

Opened in 2025, Khuoi Han Ecolodge currently has 14 rooms with prices ranging from 800,000 VND to 2,000,000 VND per night (1 to 3 beds), and is consistently fully booked.

Mr. Doan Tuan Anh, a bartender at Khuoi Han Ecolodge, shared that foreign tourists enjoy strolling, sunbathing, and dining on the grass while admiring the mountains and forests. They all praise the quality of service and the scenery here.

Located in Hamlet 20, Nung Tri Cao Ward, Kha Ban homestay, with its stilt house architecture reflecting the unique cultural identity of the Tay and Nung people, is a favorite destination for many tourists.

Mr. Nong Van Dat, owner of Kha Ban homestay, shared that many tourists, especially foreign tourists, are satisfied with the quality of service and the attentive and flexible service of the homestay. In addition, the programs and services of Kha Ban homestay are rich in ethnic cultural identity, helping them explore the culinary culture of the ethnic groups in Cao Bang province. Many tourists are "conquered" by the black pork wrapped in fig and mulberry leaves. This is a delicious, flavorful dish that is good for digestion and is both a food and a medicine of the Tay and Nung people in Cao Bang.

Having visited Cao Bang twice and stayed at Kha Ban homestay, Marie Claire (France) shared that the pristine nature, unique and unspoiled cultural identity, and enthusiastic, hospitable people are attractive factors, and she will continue to visit Cao Bang.

During the Hung Kings Commemoration Day, April 30th, and May 1st holidays, which took place from April 25th to May 3rd, Cao Bang province's tourism industry welcomed over 144,000 visitors. Among them, Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourist Area, the "jewel" of Cao Bang tourism, was the highlight.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Dam Thuy commune, Dang Le Nam, shared that, aiming for tourist satisfaction and making Ban Gioc waterfall a "memorable destination," the local authorities have mobilized police, border guards, and military forces to regulate and manage traffic flow, and arrange parking areas in a systematic and scientific manner to avoid congestion. Accommodation establishments in the commune have also invested in improving the quality of rooms and services, and signed commitments to maintain stable prices during the surge in tourist numbers.

Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Lan, a tourist from Hai Phong city, shared that Cao Bang has beautiful natural landscapes, rich culinary culture, and guaranteed service quality.

A long-term vision for sustainable tourism.

Analyzing and evaluating the reasons for the significant transformation and development of tourism in Cao Bang province in recent times, Mr. Hoang Manh Ngoc, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kolia Limited Company, shared that the provincial tourism industry has become more aware and focused on promotion and improving the quality of tourism services. In particular, the cultural identity of ethnic minorities has been carefully preserved and promoted, creating an attraction for Cao Bang tourism. However, in many places, promotional activities are still unprofessional and seasonal. For example, during the recent April 30th and May 1st holidays, at Kim Dong pedestrian street, the People's Committee of Thuc Phan ward organized many activities, with the highlight being the "Releasing 5,000 lanterns on the Bang River" and the interactive live art performance "Touching the Flow of Peace," which attracted more than 50,000 tourists.

The provincial tourism sector has become more aware of and focused on promoting and improving the quality of tourism services. In particular, the cultural identity of ethnic minority groups is being preserved and promoted, creating an attraction for Cao Binh tourism. However, in many places, promotional efforts are still unprofessional and seasonal.

However, after these successful events, there has been insufficient attention paid to building upon them and developing plans to continue promoting and creating a series of memorable events for tourists.

On the other hand, in Cao Bang, there is still a shortage of skilled professionals capable of filming and editing promotional clips about the cultural identity, production activities, and daily life of ethnic minorities to enhance communication and promotion of the local nature and people.

On another note, as a member of the Cao Bang Provincial Tourism Association, Mr. Nong Van Dat, owner of Kha Ban homestay, shared that the Cao Bang provincial government and tourism industry need to play a leading role, supporting and promoting the integration of music, cuisine, and architecture reflecting the unique cultural identity of ethnic minorities into tourism products to "elevate services and spread cultural identity." The province needs to support the development of fashion brands based on traditional handcrafted textiles of the Tay, Nung, Hmong, and Dao Tien ethnic groups, creating a unique identity for the sustainable development of Cao Bang tourism.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Cao Bang province, from the beginning of the year until now, the locality has welcomed more than 800,000 tourists, generating approximately 900 billion VND in tourism revenue. In 2025, the tourism industry aims to attract more than 2.5 million tourists, with tourism revenue reaching 2,500 billion VND. In 2026, the locality aims to welcome approximately 3 million tourists, with total tourism revenue exceeding 3,000 billion VND. To achieve the above goals, relevant departments and agencies, as well as owners of accommodation and tourism service establishments, have been working together to improve service quality, create and enhance the local identity, and make Cao Bang a "beautiful and memorable destination".

Nguyen Quoc Trung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Cao Bang province, shared that the provincial leadership's perspective on tourism development is to focus on in-depth investment, improving and enhancing service quality, and creating unique cultural identities based on the rich cultural resources of the ethnic communities.

The locality will continue to invest in transportation infrastructure, tourism infrastructure, and develop geological tourism, ecotourism, historical-cultural tourism, and community tourism products to meet the needs of tourists. The tourism sector will continue to strengthen cooperation, investment, training, and professional development to gradually improve the quality of human resources. The locality will also strengthen connections, promotion, and attract experienced businesses, corporations, and investors to participate in investment and consulting; develop and put into use smart tourism applications on mobile devices, integrating multilingual automatic commentary functions and digital maps for the "Non Nuoc Cao Bang" Geopark, and continue to build and affirm the Cao Bang tourism brand as "green, distinctive, and sustainable".
