Poverty information reduction to create sustainable livelihood models
Ta Rut commune was established on the basis of merging 3 old communes: Ta Rut, A Vao and Huc Nghi. Identifying agriculture , forestry and livestock as strengths, the authorities of Ta Rut commune have oriented people to invest and expand effective livelihood models.
From the resources of programs and projects, localities have supported preferential loans, plants, seeds and diversified information approaches through technical training activities, dissemination of production knowledge through the radio system, and direct cadres to the grassroots to "shake hands and show the job". Thanks to that, it has contributed to changing the awareness of many families, especially ethnic minorities in production and building economic models. Thereby, helping people master techniques, boldly invest capital and technology in production, bringing high economic efficiency.
In Huc Nghi village, the story of Mr. Ho Van Quan's economic development is mentioned by the people in the area as a testament to the spirit of daring to think and daring to do. Previously, Mr. Quan's family was near-poor, their livelihood depended on slash-and-burn farming, so their income was unstable. In 2009, the family received capital support to buy 3 breeding goats, so he boldly started raising them.

Thanks to technical training and having studied primary veterinary medicine, Mr. Quan clearly understands the role of disease prevention, nutrition, and housing in livestock farming. Therefore, after only a few years, his family's goat herd has grown to more than 20, bringing in an income of about 30 million VND/year. Not stopping there, with preferential loans, Mr. Quan continued to expand his farming to 6 buffaloes and plant 6 hectares of acacia trees.
Thanks to that, in 2018, his family officially escaped poverty and became well-off with an average total income of about 80 million VND/year.
“Having capital is not enough, knowledge is important. Like my family, thanks to technical guidance from staff and regularly reading books, listening to the radio, and watching TV, I know how to do business effectively,” Mr. Quan shared.
Identifying economic restructuring as the key direction to reduce poverty, in recent years, Ta Rut commune has strongly converted ineffective upland rice fields to cassava, banana, and melaleuca plantations and developed large-scale livestock farming. Up to now, the total cultivated area of the commune has reached 1,381 hectares, in which many key crops bring stable economic efficiency.
The appearance of rural border areas is improving
From a locality with many difficulties, Ta Rut today is changing every day. The vast forests, each herd of goats developing in the direction of goods or banana gardens full of fruit... not only reflect the strong shift in the local economic structure, but also show the clear effectiveness of information poverty reduction work to change people's thinking and awareness in economic development.
A new feature in the economic picture in Ta Rut in recent years is the increasing rate of people finding jobs through labor export. Thanks to that, people have a high and stable income and help ethnic minorities have more conditions to change their lives. In addition, small-scale industry has gradually developed, trade and service activities have tended to develop in both quantity and quality, with rich and diverse products, meeting the consumption needs of the people.
Over the past 5 years, the locality has invested in 64 infrastructure projects with a total capital of more than 110 billion VND. 100% of inter-village roads are concreted; electricity and water systems are increasingly improved; schools and medical stations are being upgraded.
Average income per capita reached 27.2 million VND/year, the poverty rate decreased by an average of over 6% per year. Decent houses gradually replaced temporary houses. Children went to school more fully, social security policies were implemented promptly. More importantly, the mindset of waiting and relying on others was replaced by a spirit of proactively striving.
Chairman of Ta Rut Commune People's Committee Nguyen Si Huan said that information poverty reduction is the foundation for people to escape poverty sustainably. When people understand the techniques, grasp the market, and know how to use capital properly, their business will be effective and sustainable. The commune determined that propaganda and training must go one step ahead of material support. Therefore, in the coming time, the locality will continue to replicate effective production models, build cooperatives, and link agricultural product consumption with production and the market. At the same time, it will strengthen vocational training, transfer science and technology to the people, create resources for long-term development, and strive to reduce the local poverty rate to 5%/year by 2030.
