Climbing the steep, treacherous slopes to Ta Xi Lang in the final days of the year, amidst the biting cold at the mountaintop, following the delegations of commune leaders visiting and giving gifts to the people, I clearly felt the joy and warmth of the villagers as they received care and support during the Tet holiday and the arrival of spring.

Receiving Tet gifts from commune officials, Mrs. Thao Thi Pang (a poor household) in Xa Nhu village was visibly moved, saying: “I live alone and only cultivate a small amount of land, so life is difficult. I am very happy that the local government and commune leaders have come to visit and give me gifts. We Mong people always trust the Party, the State, and the local government, and we hope for a more stable and prosperous life.”
Sharing the same emotion upon receiving the gifts from the local authorities, Mr. Vang A Vang from Ta Cao village expressed: “My family has 6 members and is facing economic difficulties, so we are classified as a poor household. The gift from the commune is a great source of encouragement, motivating my family to work harder to escape poverty soon.”
For the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, Ta Xi Lang commune will distribute over 283 gift packages, including 210 packages from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lao Cai province to impoverished families, totaling nearly 130 million VND; and 73 packages from the commune's budget to near-poor and newly-escaped-poverty families, totaling nearly 40 million VND. In addition, the commune will provide 465 kg of rice to 8 impoverished households during the Tet holiday.

Mr. Pham Manh Tuong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ta Xi Lang commune, said: “Given the unique characteristics of this mountainous commune, where over 90% of the population are ethnic Mong people and the people's lives are still difficult, the commune's Party committee and government have identified caring for the people during Tet (Lunar New Year), especially poor and near-poor households, vulnerable people, and the elderly, as an important task. We hope that through gifts, care, and sharing, each family will have a warm and joyful Tet. This will strengthen the people's trust in the Party, the State, and the local government, creating motivation for people to work with peace of mind, develop the economy, and build increasingly prosperous villages. This year, the commune also organized a program to celebrate the birthdays of 11 elderly people who have reached the ages of 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, and over 100 years old.”

Furthermore, stemming from the fact that the area has a large Mong ethnic minority population, Ta Xi Lang commune has determined that organizing activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2026 must be linked to the traditional cultural identity of the ethnic group. The commune People's Committee has developed a plan to organize many cultural, artistic, and sports activities that are rich in Mong ethnic colors, creating a vibrant community space in the early days of the new year. Accordingly, the commune will organize a rice cake pounding competition, and competitions in traditional sports such as stick pushing, tug-of-war, spinning top, pao throwing, and chicken badminton. In particular, with the aim of preserving and restoring traditional cultural heritage rituals, customs, and values, and contributing to building an advanced culture rich in ethnic identity, the commune will organize the Gau Tao festival on February 23rd, which is the 7th day of the first lunar month.
Mr. Thào Hoàng Long, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tà Xi Láng commune, said: “Through the Gầu Tào festival, we hope to create unity and a joyful atmosphere in the community. This activity is also an opportunity for the commune to widely disseminate to the people the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's policies towards ethnic minorities. From there, we aim to raise community awareness about the role and significance of preserving cultural identity in the current period. The festival will be held for one day at the base of the thousand-year-old Xi Láng tree with all the traditional rituals.”

Heartfelt gifts, sincere greetings, and traditional cultural and sporting activities promise to create a warm and vibrant Tet holiday in this remote and challenging highland region. In the spirit of welcoming the Year of the Horse 2026, the care and responsibility of the new government will be a solid foundation, strengthening the people's trust and creating a basis for the Mong people and other ethnic groups here to work with peace of mind, preserve their cultural identity, and work together to build Ta Xi Lang into an increasingly stable and prosperous place.
