Mr. Mac Quang Thinh (born in 1987) informed VietNamNet reporter that his father - musician Dinh Tram Ca breathed his last at 9:58 this morning, December 1 at his home in Da Nang (former Quang Nam province), at the age of 82.

He suffered a stroke in 2021, resulting in paralysis of the whole body and inability to speak. All his daily activities have been taken care of by his youngest son's family, Mr. Thinh, for the past 3 years.

Recently, Dinh Tram Ca's health declined, and complications from a stroke worsened, causing him to fall into a coma and pass away in the arms of his wife, son, daughter, and sisters.

Before he passed away, he and his family also suffered property damage due to the recent floods in the Central region.

While still conscious, Dinh Tram Ca only instructed to hold a simple and quiet funeral. According to his wishes, the family held a simple funeral, without drums and trumpets, only inviting monks to chant sutras and a few relatives to burn incense in memory of him.

On December 4, relatives will bring the veteran musician's coffin to the family cemetery for burial.

Musician Dinh Tram Ca's real name is Mac Phu, born in 1943 in Quang Nam province (now Da Nang ). After graduating from high school, he went to Saigon to study at the Pedagogical University, then taught literature until 1975.

He started writing poetry in the early 1960s, publishing his first collection of poems, Night Eyes - considered one of the five representative poetry collections of 1969.

Also during this time, Dinh Tram Ca learned music from musician Le Trong Nguyen. The song "Ru con tinh cu" (Lullaby of Old Love) was released in 1967 and sung by singer Le Thu and quickly became famous.

He composed hundreds of songs, most notably: Lullaby of Old Love, Hometown River, Talented Boys and Beautiful Girls, Starlings' Sorrow... Besides Dinh Tram Ca, he also used the pen name Ma Thu Giang.

As a poet, Dinh Tram Ca has strength in writing lyrics, having collaborated with musician Quoc Dung and many other authors.

After 1975, he returned to his hometown in Quang Nam to do farming, then continued to leave his hometown to wander in Soc Trang , An Giang, Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City...

In 2004, he returned to Quang Nam to settle down and opened Thach Truc Vien coffee shop - a place where local artists often visited.
