Hanoi Taekwondo: Removing the "bottleneck" in recruitment, elevating the club's level for development.

After the first half of its 2023-2028 term, the Hanoi Taekwondo Federation is showing a new face: more dynamic, more systematic, and more ambitious for breakthroughs. From a strong grassroots movement to strategic steps aimed at professionalizing the club system, Hanoi Taekwondo is gradually building a foundation for sustainable development.

Chairman of the Hanoi Taekwondo Federation, Nguyen Manh Hung, delivered a speech at the conference.

However, as the President of the Hanoi Taekwondo Federation, Nguyen Manh Hung, frankly acknowledged, high-performance sports remain the biggest "bottleneck" that needs to be addressed soon if Vietnam wants to assert its rightful place on the national and international Taekwondo map.

The movement is undergoing transformation, its foundations are being strengthened.

According to Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung, the first term of the Hanoi Taekwondo Federation is of "pivotal" significance, both laying the foundation for the organization and serving as a test of the effectiveness of the sports socialization model.

During the first half of its term, the Federation focused on implementing four pillars simultaneously: perfecting the organizational structure and documentation system; expanding and elevating the movement; gradually consolidating high-performance sports; and promoting socialization and international cooperation.

The most striking example is the strong development of grassroots Taekwondo. Before the official establishment of the Federation, Hanoi only had about 7,000-8,000 regularly practicing martial arts; today, that number has nearly doubled, reaching approximately 14,000-15,000. This increase in both quantity and quality demonstrates the growing appeal of Taekwondo in the mass sports life of the capital city.

Along with that, the club system has been restructured in a more organized and unified manner. From only about 20-30 clubs operating in a fragmented and disorganized way, Hanoi Taekwondo now has 72 member clubs officially operating under the "common roof" of the Federation.

With close coordination with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation, the organizational model has been gradually standardized, creating a solid foundation for long-term development.

Event organization, tournaments, and social outreach activities also recorded many positive points. The annual Taekwondo festivals and tournaments organized by the Federation not only attracted numerous clubs in the city but also spread to many provinces and cities in the North, thereby affirming the leading role of Hanoi Taekwondo in the regional movement.

High achievement – a “bottleneck” that needs a solution.

Alongside the bright prospects of the movement, Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung did not shy away from the reality that high-performance sports have not yet met expectations. "We have achieved results, but if we consider the potential, scale, and status of the capital city, those results are not truly commensurate with our potential," he stated frankly.

According to Mr. Hung, the biggest "bottleneck" lies in the athlete training chain, where the input plays a decisive role. "Selection - training - competition are three key stages, but selection accounts for 50% of the success. If the input isn't up to standard, it's very difficult to create top-level athletes, no matter how good the coach is," he analyzed.

Along with that comes the challenge of the coaching staff. In the context of rapidly changing rules and techniques in world Taekwondo, standardizing the coaching level to higher levels, approaching international standards, especially the "master" level, has become a mandatory requirement.

"To keep up with modern Taekwondo, we must have the support of world-leading experts," emphasized the President of the Hanoi Taekwondo Federation.

In the coming period, the Federation will closely coordinate with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports to rebuild the athlete selection process in a more scientific, rigorous, and transparent manner, thereby improving the effectiveness of training and utilizing resources in the right direction.

Standardizing clubs - the key to sustainable development.

In the long-term vision, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung particularly emphasized the "core" role of grassroots clubs. Following the Federation's direction, Hanoi Taekwondo clubs will gradually be standardized to operate according to a professional model, adopting the practices of modern "sports enterprises."

This model not only helps the club become financially independent but also enhances transparency in governance, fostering a long-term investment mindset in human resources, facilities, and training quality. "When the club has a clear strategy and resources are used effectively, development will no longer be a short-term, trend-driven movement," Mr. Hung emphasized.

Throughout this process, the Federation has identified its role as a partner, acting as a "facilitator" in terms of legal, organizational, and professional matters, creating a favorable environment for clubs to confidently transform themselves.

According to the President of the Hanoi Taekwondo Federation, when the 72 member clubs operate stably, autonomously, and professionally, this system will become a "source" providing a plentiful supply of high-quality athletes for the high-performance level. "A strong club means a strong federation, a sustainable movement, and a truly wide-open path to conquering the highest peaks," he affirmed.

Although many challenges remain, especially the issue of funding, with the support of businesses, philanthropists, and the determination of the Executive Committee, Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung expressed his belief that Hanoi Taekwondo will make further breakthroughs in the remaining half of its term.

Building upon the foundation of standardized clubs, Hanoi Taekwondo hopes to gradually elevate its status, make a worthy contribution to the overall image of Hanoi sports, and leave a clearer mark on the national and international arenas.
