The Quang Trung road, with a total length of 3.2km, starts at the intersection with the Ha Long - Van Don - Mong Cai expressway and ends at the intersection with the Van Don coastal road. It was funded by the provincial budget and put into use in 2017. Connecting the main functional areas of the Van Don Economic Zone, and serving as one of the two gateways to the Van Don Special Economic Zone, this road plays a crucial role in promoting economic development both now and in the future.
However, the reality is that the urban trees (crape myrtle) planted along the route have not shown significant growth after 10 years. Most of the trees planted along the route are stunted and grow unevenly, resulting in a lack of urban aesthetics.
Ms. Ngo Thi Anh, Party Secretary and Head of Ward 6 (Van Don Special Economic Zone), stated: "The Quang Trung road passes through Ward 6. Although the road is beautifully constructed and connects to the expressway and Van Don airport, the green space along the route does not meet the requirements. Part of the reason is that the soil conditions here are not suitable for certain types of trees, so it is necessary to consider replacing them with other types of trees that are more adaptable."

Based on this reality, the Van Don Special Economic Zone has proposed and implemented a plan to replace the entire urban green space system with more suitable trees, creating a uniform and immediately effective landscape. On April 29th, the Van Don Special Economic Zone Public Service Management Board held a meeting to solicit opinions from residents along the Quang Trung road regarding the project. At this meeting, the consulting unit presented a plan to replace 505 trees along the 3.2km stretch and add a lighting system to illuminate the green space.
Mr. Ha Van Khuong, Deputy Director of the Van Don Special Economic Zone Public Service Management Board, said: 100% of the households summoned to the meeting agreed with the plan to replace urban trees along Quang Trung Street. All previously planted trees have been moved to the special economic zone's nursery, the Solidarity Resettlement Area, and the Binh Dan Resettlement Area. The renovation and beautification of the tree system along Quang Trung Street contributes to creating a more attractive appearance for the central administrative area of the Van Don Special Economic Zone, while also promoting the image of a youthful, modern, and friendly urban environment.

Along with the aforementioned project, many other infrastructure and urban improvement and upgrading projects are currently being actively implemented in the Van Don Special Economic Zone. Notable examples include: the renovation and upgrading of the Thong Nhat urban area's infrastructure; the renovation and upgrading of the Doan Ket resettlement area's infrastructure; the construction of a connecting road along the central axis of the Cai Rong urban area; and the renovation and upgrading of the technical infrastructure and drainage systems in a number of existing residential areas.
Despite rising raw material and fuel prices and a shortage of labor, these projects are currently being implemented very urgently and actively. Many projects are expected to be completed ahead of schedule as set by the investors.
The Thong Nhat urban area infrastructure renovation and upgrading project, which commenced in late December 2025, spans 9.7 km and has a total investment of over 145 billion VND. It is envisioned to create a new highlight in urban infrastructure for the central area of the Van Don Special Economic Zone. The consortium of contractors involved in this project has overcome difficulties amidst rising material and fuel prices, proactively signing agreements with partners and suppliers to secure surplus materials for construction. Currently, the project has achieved 90% completion and aims for full completion by May 2026.

The Van Don Special Economic Zone is implementing a series of other urban infrastructure projects to serve the social welfare needs of its residents. A prime example is the investment project to build a regulating lake park in Hamlet 10, Van Don Special Economic Zone. According to the design plan, this project has a total area of 3.2 hectares, located at the intersection of Quang Trung road and the main road connecting the Cai Rong urban area to Ao Tien port, the Mon Bay Van Don high-end resort and entertainment complex with a golf course and residential area, and the Sonasea Van Don Harbor City resort complex.
Mr. Cao Tuong Huy, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Van Don Special Economic Zone, shared: Focusing on improving and upgrading existing urban infrastructure is not only a short-term solution to improve the quality of life for the people, but also a strategic step, creating a solid foundation for the long-term development of Van Don Special Economic Zone. As infrastructure bottlenecks are gradually removed and urban spaces are comprehensively renovated, Van Don will have more room to attract investment, develop services, tourism, and a modern marine economy.
