More than 6,800 kg of smuggled sugar has just been inspected and discovered by the market management force of Ho Chi Minh City.
On the afternoon of January 24, according to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department, Market Management Team No. 19 coordinated with the Economic Police Team, Cu Chi District Police, and Tan An Hoi Commune Police to conduct a surprise inspection of the Trading Company Limited (Tan An Hoi, Cu Chi).
During the inspection, the authorities discovered 6,800 kg of smuggled sugar, 50 kg/bag, originating from Cambodia. Market Management Team No. 19 temporarily detained all the goods for handling according to the law.
The Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department stated that the price of imported sugar being lower than the price of domestic products is one of the favorable conditions for smugglers, causing tax losses and greatly affecting farmers and businesses.
Transportation and delivery are still done by transferring from large transport vehicles to small transfer vehicles at night at parking lots located in the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City such as Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, District 12, etc.
Faced with the above problem, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department directed market management teams to proactively coordinate with functional forces to strengthen inspection and supervision (enterprises, agents, etc.) of compliance with regulations on import, production, storage, etc.; contributing to the fight against and prevention of violations.
According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department, in 2023, the market management force inspected 44 violations, fined 1.44 billion VND, confiscated 14.8 tons of sugar and forced the destruction of over 100 tons of granulated sugar.
