According to Kyodo News, an extremely rare Pokémon trading card set a record at a public auction, fetching a price of $16,492,000 (including transaction fees) on February 16 in New Jersey, USA.
The aforementioned trading card, featuring Pikachu – the iconic character of the Pokemon brand – received a perfect 10 score, the highest possible score for its condition, from the card appraisal organization. It is one of 39 cards awarded to the winners of a 1998 drawing contest organized by CoroCoro Comic magazine (Japan).
The card was sent to Goldin Auctions in New Jersey by Logan Paul, an American social media influencer with over 23 million YouTube subscribers.
In 2021, Logan Paul purchased the Pokemon trading card for $5.27 million, setting a Guinness World Record for "the most expensive Pokemon trading card ever sold in a private transaction."
Before the online auction began on January 5th, Ken Goldin, the founder of the aforementioned auction house, predicted that the card's value had skyrocketed and that it would not be surprising if it exceeded $10 million.
The winner received the card along with a decorative diamond necklace. The buyer's identity has not been officially revealed, although they appeared in Logan Paul's YouTube livestream to receive the card during the auction.
This price of $16.492 million has shattered the previous record for a collectible trading card. According to Guinness, the previous record belonged to a basketball trading card signed by basketball legends Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, which sold for $12.93 million at Heritage Auctions in August 2025.
