Strengthening cooperation in protecting the Vietnam - Laos border

On the afternoon of December 9, in Hue city, the Border Guard Command of Hue city, Da Nang and Quang Ngai province held the 19th annual meeting in 2025 with the Military Command of Sekong province (Lao People's Democratic Republic).

The Border Guard Commands of three Vietnamese provinces and cities and the Military Command of Sekong province have closely coordinated in border management and protection; maintained the status quo of the border line, the system of national border markers, and ensured security and order in the border areas of the two countries.

The implementation of agreements related to the Vietnam-Laos Border Area Regulations continues to be strictly maintained, creating a favorable environment for socio -economic development, further tightening the special friendship between the armed forces and people of the two sides. The Border Guard Forces of the two countries regularly exchange information, and organize a bilateral provincial-level patrol and 49 Station-Company level patrols with the participation of thousands of officers and soldiers.

The twinning model between the Border Guard Station – Border Guard Company and the pairs of villages continues to be maintained effectively, thereby enhancing exchanges and mutual support. Units of the Vietnam Border Guard have supported the people and armed forces of Sekong province with a total value of nearly 3 billion VND; at the same time, maintaining the program “Helping children go to school” for 15 Lao students.

In the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue to comply with agreements and legal documents on the Vietnam-Laos border; promote information exchange, coordinate patrols, border management and crime prevention. Propaganda work for the people of both sides on border regulations will be enhanced to promote smooth and legal exchange of goods.

The two units also agreed to maintain the mechanism of regular or ad hoc talks when necessary; promote the effectiveness of the twinning model of Station - Company and village - hamlet; coordinate to promptly resolve arising incidents in accordance with regulations, contributing to maintaining stability and security in the border area.

At the end of the talks, representatives of the two sides signed the minutes and expressed their belief that the special solidarity and friendship between the Border Guards of the three Vietnamese provinces and cities and the Sekong Provincial Military Command will continue to be nurtured, towards building a peaceful , friendly, stable and sustainably developed Vietnam-Laos border.
