Strengthening coordination in managing and protecting the Vietnam-China border

On the afternoon of December 2, in Sa Pa (Lao Cai), the delegation of Lai Chau Provincial Border Guard (Vietnam) and the delegation of Mong Tu Regional Border Guard (China) held the 16th Professional Work Talks.

Representatives of both sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

In the spirit of equality, friendship and frankness, the two sides reviewed the results of coordination in border management and protection from December 2024 to present; and agreed on many contents to strengthen cooperation in the coming time.

The two sides continue to thoroughly implement the "16-word motto" and "4-good spirit", maintain comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries; closely coordinate in managing and protecting borders, border lines, and border markers; strictly implement the three legal documents on the Vietnam-China border and the Border Cooperation Agreement dated October 24, 2024.

Delegations from both sides met before the talks.

The delegations agreed to maintain the mechanism of information exchange via hotlines, regular and ad hoc talks; coordinate bilateral patrols according to the minutes of the 13th Talks; and supervise construction activities on the border in accordance with the provisions of the Border Management Agreement.

The two sides coordinate to fight against crimes such as illegal immigration, smuggling, drugs, human trafficking, cross-border gambling, and online fraud; support each other in responding to natural disasters and epidemics, and protect the lives and property of people in border areas.

Representatives of Lai Chau delegation presented gifts to the working delegation of the Mong Tu area Border Guard.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen legal dissemination for border residents, promote friendly exchanges, create conditions for the implementation of twinning of residential clusters on both sides of the border, contributing to building a peaceful , friendly, stable and developing border.

Cooperation contents such as opening more border markets, restoring traditional openings, maintaining border representative talks and exchange activities continue to be implemented.

At the end of the talks, representatives of the two sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding of the 16th Talks.
