Strengthening propaganda and inspection against illegal fishing

In order to join hands to prepare well for the inspection delegation of the European Commission (EC) to visit Vietnam for the 5th time, towards removing the "yellow card" for the seafood industry (expected in November), the forces in the sea area of ​​Ho Chi Minh City have focused on propaganda combined with patrolling, checking, controlling and handling violations.

On October 29 and 31, Border Guard Squadron 18 (under the Border Guard Command) coordinated with the Coast Guard Region 3 Command (under the Vietnam Coast Guard Command) to organize propaganda on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing for 60 vessels and 800 fishermen in the sea area of ​​Ho Chi Minh City.

Accordingly, officers and soldiers of the units distributed leaflets and brochures to fishermen about what they need to know about combating IUU fishing; information about zoning maps and seafood exploitation routes in Vietnam's waters; things that fishing boat owners and fishermen operating at sea need to remember to do...

Also at the propaganda sessions, fishermen and fishing boat owners signed a commitment to implement measures against IUU fishing.

Along with propaganda and reminders, the forces also focus on implementing peak patrols, inspections, controls, and handling of violations. According to the plan, the peak patrol period will take place from the end of October to the end of November 2025, in the sea area from Khanh Hoa province, Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho city.

In particular, the authorities will resolutely and flexibly deploy measures and plans to patrol, inspect and control the sea areas, especially in overlapping sea areas and bordering sea areas; focus on controlling 100% of fishing vessels before leaving port, especially maintaining the voyage monitoring equipment (VMS); strictly handle violations of fishing regulations and prevent Vietnamese fishing vessels from illegally fishing in foreign waters; prevent foreign fishing vessels from encroaching on the sea area and illegally fishing in Vietnam's waters...

The peak patrol combined with propaganda, dissemination and legal education was carried out seriously and resolutely by the forces to raise awareness, self-consciousness and strict implementation of the law for fishermen in the coastal border area. Thereby, joining hands with the entire political system to accelerate the process of removing the yellow card of the European Commission (EC) and building a strong people's border defense posture.
