On the morning of November 12, the People's Committee of Truong Son commune ( Quang Tri province) confirmed that a landslide had just occurred in the locality during the night, causing great concern among local residents.
According to initial information, at around 10:00 p.m. on November 11, a rock about 1.5 meters long, 1 meter wide, estimated to weigh several tons, suddenly rolled down the cliff onto the West branch of Ho Chi Minh Road, passing through Hong Son village (Truong Son commune).
At the time of the incident, there were no people in the area, so fortunately there were no casualties. However, the area where the rock fell was only a few dozen meters from a house in the middle of the night, making many nearby households extremely uneasy.
Locals said that there are still many similar rocks on the mountainside in precarious positions, which can fall down during windy or stormy weather or geological disturbances.
According to the leader of Truong Son commune, a rock slide occurred at this location more than a month ago. About 1km away from this location, a rock slide also occurred, so the road management agency has put up a rock slide warning sign on this road section.
Currently, the authorities have put up warning ropes, instructed people to travel safely and coordinated with the road management unit to come up with a plan to move the rock.
"We are planning to relocate households near this area where landslides often occur to a concentrated resettlement area to ensure safety," said the commune leader.
