Nhat Hoa is one of the communes with the largest peanut growing area in the province. In 2025, the whole commune will plant more than 280 hectares of peanuts with nearly 700 households. At this time, people in the commune are focusing on harvesting.
Ms. Hoang Thi Huong, Ban Dac village, Nhat Hoa commune said: Previously, my family mainly grew peanuts to serve the family's needs on a small scale. About 5 years ago, realizing the economic efficiency of peanuts, my family converted the ineffective rice and corn cultivation area to peanut cultivation. Accordingly, this year, my family planted more than 5 sao of red peanuts. My family has now finished harvesting, with an output of about 800 kg of fresh peanuts. To make the peanuts more valuable, my family does not sell them fresh but brings them home to dry. The selling price of dry shelled red peanuts ranges from 50,000 - 55,000 VND/kg (15,000 - 20,000 VND/kg higher than fresh red peanuts), bringing in an income of over 30 million VND after deducting expenses.
Similar to Ms. Huong's family, Mr. Nong Van Nghiem's family in Khon Nua village, Bang Mac commune has boldly expanded the peanut growing area. Mr. Nghiem said: Previously, my family only planted 1 to 2 sao of peanuts. However, realizing the market demand and economic efficiency of peanuts, my family has expanded the growing area. This year, my family planted more than 1 mau of peanuts, mainly white peanuts. This year's expected output is nearly 2 tons, with a selling price of 13,000 to 16,000 VND/kg of fresh peanuts, the family earned over 25 million VND after deducting expenses.
Ms. Vi Thi Dien, Head of the Economic Department of Bang Mac Commune, said: In recent years, on average, each year, people in the commune have planted nearly 100 hectares of peanuts with about 500 households, with an output of over 150 tons. From growing peanuts, households have an additional income of 10 to 30 million VND/year. In the coming time, the department will continue to coordinate with relevant units to promote and encourage people to maintain and expand the area; apply science and technology to planting and caring for peanuts to increase production efficiency.
Not only people in Nhat Hoa and Bang Mac communes, people in other communes in the province have also planted peanuts on ineffective rice and corn cultivation areas. It is known that peanuts are grown by people in two crops: winter-spring and summer-autumn. Not only do they have high economic value, peanuts also have the ability to fix nitrogen and improve the soil.
According to data from professional agencies, in 2025, the whole province will plant 2,775 hectares of peanuts (an increase of 189 hectares compared to 2024), with a yield of 18.59 quintals/hectare and an output of 5,157 tons (an increase of 350 tons compared to 2024). The economic value of peanuts is estimated at about 100 billion VND.
Ms. Phung Thi Kim Khanh, Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, Department of Agriculture and Environment said: In the coming time, the department will continue to advise the department to coordinate with relevant units and People's Committees of communes growing peanuts to propagate, guide and transfer science and technology to people to improve productivity and product quality, and at the same time, connect communes to create concentrated raw material areas to attract businesses to invest in linking consumption and processing of products, thereby increasing the value and income for peanut growers in the province.
