Speaking at the opening of the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) 2023 at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Mr. Jokowi said that ASEAN's economic growth in 2024 is expected to be the highest in the world at 4.5%.
Mr. Jokowi stressed that ASEAN has proven itself to be a peaceful , stable and prosperous region, adding that 65% of the region's population has the potential to join the middle class by 2030.
The head of the Indonesian Government also assessed that the above factors are a great driving force to turn ASEAN into a "growth center" with an "extraordinary strategy", in the context of the world situation that has not improved much.
Mr. Jokowi said that these efforts require close cooperation from all countries, businesses and society, and expressed hope that the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC) will play a greater role in developing and implementing cooperation strategies among stakeholders.
The leader also hoped that the concept of “Unified ASEAN” presented by ABAC at the Conference could become a communication bridge, creating a mutually beneficial ecosystem, to enhance ASEAN’s competitiveness and promote regional prosperity.
ABIS is hosted by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) as the Chair of ABAC in 2023. This is one of two important side events of the 43rd ASEAN Summit.
