The pillar of petroleum supply, maintaining national energy security.

In his opening remarks at the anniversary celebration, Mr. Pham Van Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex), stated that over the past 70 years, Petrolimex has embarked on a continuous journey: from being the lifeline of petroleum during wartime to becoming one of the country's energy pillars in peacetime, and today, bearing the responsibility of contributing to building a green and digital energy future for a rapidly developing, sustainable, and prosperous Vietnam.

This is not just the development journey of a business, but a living memory of the nation's history, the culmination of the will, courage, intelligence, and spirit of service to the Fatherland of many generations of officials and workers in Vietnam's petroleum industry.

During the fierce years of war, when the fate of the nation's independence and freedom was put to a life-or-death test, gasoline and oil were not merely strategic supplies, but the lifeblood sustaining the front lines and the breath that kept the rear alive; and the gasoline and oil officials, amidst the rain of bombs and bullets, not only worked diligently in production, but also became silent soldiers, using their perseverance, courage, and sacrifice to keep the supply lines to the battlefield running smoothly.

The petroleum industry worked closely with the military and the people, successfully completing the task of receiving, storing, transporting, and supplying millions of tons of petroleum products to serve production, daily life, and support the battlefields in the South, contributing to the historic victory of Spring 1975 and the reunification of the country.

Many officials and employees of the petroleum industry have bravely sacrificed their lives and blood for the Fatherland. Among them are 21 martyrs from the petroleum industry, most notably Martyr Pham Van Dat, former General Director of the Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation, who died in the B-52 bombing raid at No. 1 Kham Thien in 1972; along with many other officials who were seriously wounded, bearing the scars of war. These sacrifices will forever be a source of pride and an enduring spiritual foundation for Petrolimex today and in the future.

Entering a period of peace, reunification, and reform, Petrolimex continues to affirm its role as a core state-owned enterprise, maintaining a leading position in stabilizing the petroleum market, ensuring supply for socio-economic development, national defense and security, and the lives of the people.

From a supplier operating under wartime conditions, Petrolimex has proactively taken the lead in integration, becoming the first and only large-scale state-owned enterprise to date to successfully privatize and become a publicly listed company on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. For many years, the Group has been honored as the top-performing listed company in terms of revenue, possessing an advanced and modern management and governance system.

“Currently, Petrolimex holds nearly 50% of the domestic petroleum market share; maintaining a system of over 5,000 gas stations covering 34 provinces and cities, especially in remote, mountainous, border, and island areas. The Group owns the largest petroleum storage, port, pipeline, and logistics system in the country, including 36 petroleum depots with a total capacity of over 2.2 million cubic meters; 37 petroleum import and export ports; a pipeline system nearly 600 km long, along with the largest fleet of specialized transport vessels and vehicles in Vietnam – a strategic infrastructure of particular significance to national energy security,” emphasized the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex).

By 2025, the Group's consolidated revenue will reach VND 290,000 billion; it will contribute over VND 30,000 billion to the State budget; and it will continue to be among the state-owned enterprises making the largest contributions to the budget and to the development of localities nationwide.

In all situations, Petrolimex always ensures sufficient gasoline supply to support socio-economic development, national defense and security, and the lives of the people. Especially during difficult times such as the COVID-19 pandemic or when the market experienced severe fluctuations due to the supply crisis in 2022, Petrolimex organized continuous 24/7 sales, ensuring uninterrupted gasoline supply and promptly serving the essential needs of the people and the economy. This further affirms its irreplaceable role as a pillar in ensuring national energy security.

Alongside its economic mission, Petrolimex has consistently fulfilled its social responsibilities as a state-owned enterprise. In the last 10 years, its total social welfare expenditure has exceeded 1,600 billion VND, making a practical contribution to sustainable poverty reduction and social development.

To develop Petrolimex into a strong state-owned economic group with national, regional, and global reach.

Mr. Pham Van Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex), stated that Petrolimex deeply understands and strictly adheres to the major policies and guidelines of the Party. In particular, Petrolimex clearly defines its responsibility in effectively implementing Resolution No. 57 of the Party on the development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, as well as Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW of the Politburo dated August 20, 2025, on ensuring national energy security. These resolutions are strategic in scope, reflecting the innovative thinking, long-term vision, and strong political determination of the Party for the future development of the country.

“In the new context, the objective requirement is that Petrolimex cannot transform in a linear or passive way, but must proactively take a step ahead, be flexible in adapting, creative in thinking, and decisive in action; ready to restructure its development model, business structure, and management methods, in order to both maintain its pivotal role in ensuring national energy security in all situations and participate in creating the future of green and digital energy for Vietnam in the new era,” Mr. Pham Van Thanh affirmed.

Based on that understanding, and in the face of unprecedented global changes, Petrolimex has defined its development path based on the "three fundamental transformations" mindset as an essential, consistent, and long-term strategic choice.

Petrolimex is gradually transforming from a traditional petroleum enterprise into a modern energy group, proactively participating more deeply in the clean energy ecosystem, clean energy, renewable energy, and environmentally friendly products and services; thereby contributing to the realization of national goals on emission reduction, sustainable development, and green growth.

Alongside this, businesses are undergoing digital transformation, shifting from a growth model primarily based on scale to a development model based on science and technology, innovation, data, and artificial intelligence.

Petrolimex is undergoing organizational and cultural transformation, shifting from traditional management thinking to modern management, with a customer-centric approach, technology as a breakthrough, people as the main actors, and corporate culture as the foundation for building intrinsic strength.

In recognition of Petrolimex's achievements, on behalf of the Party and the State, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son presented the following prestigious awards: the First-Class Labor Order to the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) and the Third-Class Labor Order to Petrolimex Chairman Pham Van Thanh.

In his remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized that Petrolimex has always played a pivotal role and is a pioneering enterprise in ensuring the supply of petroleum products for production, business, and consumption activities, and maintaining national energy security. “Over the past 70 years, Petrolimex has consistently demonstrated its outstanding role as a pioneering, responsible, and innovative state-owned enterprise, striving to excellently fulfill all assigned tasks and making significant contributions to the cause of building and protecting the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland. It can be affirmed that in every glorious victory of the nation, there is the presence, sweat, effort, and even blood and bones of those who are responsible for transporting and preserving the 'energy supply' for the country, including many generations of cadres, workers, and employees of Petrolimex. On behalf of the Party and State leaders, I would like to acknowledge and warmly commend and congratulate the important achievements of the generations of leaders, cadres, and employees of the Vietnam National Petroleum Group throughout the past 70 years,” the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed.

Against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving and complex global situation, presenting both opportunities and challenges, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that this reality simultaneously creates development opportunities and presents immense and difficult tasks in ensuring national energy security.

With the goal of Petrolimex pioneering digital transformation, green development, and maintaining its leading role in the national energy sector, the Deputy Prime Minister requested that the Group continue to closely follow and seriously and effectively implement the Party's guidelines and policies.

Furthermore, the Group will effectively develop and implement its Development Strategy until 2030, with a vision to 2045. It will innovate its governance model based on science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and green transformation; while also decisively reforming and restructuring enterprises towards a streamlined, strong, modern, adaptable, and efficient model; contributing to the improvement of the institutional framework, resolving difficulties and obstacles in the petroleum business, and creating a transparent, stable, and healthy business environment.

In particular, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Petrolimex needs to continue to maintain its leading, pivotal, and pioneering role in the petroleum business. It must constantly expand its domestic market share, diversify its supply sources, improve the quality of its products and services, and ensure national energy security and safety in all situations. It must strengthen international cooperation, expand its export markets, and elevate the Petrolimex brand to greater heights, reaching further into the global market and participating more deeply in regional and global supply chains.

With its achievements, Petrolimex has been awarded many prestigious titles and honors by the Party and the State, such as: Ho Chi Minh Order (2006), Hero of the People's Armed Forces (2006), Hero of Labor in the Renovation Period (2005), First-Class Independence Order (1995, 2015, 2026)...
