Spraying chemicals to prevent disease
To prevent the risk of disease from the large amount of waste left behind after the flood, from November 22 until now, the regular teams for preventing and fighting infectious diseases, the disaster response team of the Nha Trang Regional Medical Center and medical stations have organized the spraying of disinfectants at thousands of households in heavily affected areas. Disinfection and sterilization work has been carried out simultaneously in the sewer system, toilets, residential areas, schools, medical stations, markets and places where people often gather in wards in the Nha Trang area.
Along with the existing chemicals, the Nha Trang Regional Medical Center was provided with an additional 340kg of disinfectants and 3,000 Aquatabs tablets by the Provincial Center for Disease Control; a unit in Ho Chi Minh City also provided additional deodorizing chemicals to enhance treatment in areas with heavy mud and waste odors after flooding. To speed up environmental treatment progress and prevent outbreaks, the center has mobilized 3 times more environmental treatment personnel. Mr. Truong Chi Cuong - Head of the Department of Public Health, Food Safety and Nutrition of the Nha Trang Regional Medical Center said: "Up to now, the center has completed disinfection, sterilization and deodorization in the entire flooded area; treated 335 contaminated wells; deployed support for 81 residential groups with a total of more than 23,110 affected households, of which 100% have received environmental treatment."
In the Dien Khanh area, according to Dr. Nguyen Duc Son - Head of the Department of Disease Control, Dien Khanh Regional Medical Center, to prevent the outbreak of disease, the center has established 3 environmental treatment teams, in conjunction with the military force to spray disinfectants throughout the Dien Khanh area. At the same time, Cloramin B is immediately distributed to medical stations to provide to people to treat water wells and the surrounding environment. According to data from the Provincial Center for Disease Control, to date, the whole province has treated the environment for more than 47,760 households and nearly 6,750 water wells.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Le Huyen - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the sense of responsibility of environmental sanitation units and the active cooperation of all units in implementing waste collection and environmental sanitation from residential areas to schools and medical facilities. Currently, in Tay Nha Trang, Nam Nha Trang, Bac Nha Trang wards and 2 communes of Dien Dien and Dien Khanh, the amount of waste is still large. Therefore, sectors and localities must consider this as a task to overcome natural disasters. For Dien Dien and Dien Khanh communes, the Department of Construction coordinates with local authorities to mobilize on-site vehicles and other units to collect and treat waste. Comrade Le Huyen requested local authorities to step up propaganda work, mobilize people and organizations to proactively handle, collect, and transport garbage to collection points, creating favorable conditions for collection units; the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinates with tourism associations and businesses to support cleaning beach areas to serve tourism activities.
