Focus on removing difficulties and completing the socio-economic development plan

Mr. Vo Quang Nhut, Deputy Director of the Department of Finance of Can Tho City, commented: “In October and the first 10 months of 2025, the city's socio-economic situation remained stable and achieved many positive results in many fields. Notably, the total retail sales of goods and service revenue in the first 10 months of 2025 increased by 16.5% over the same period in 2024; the export value of goods and foreign currency revenue is estimated to increase by 11.4% over the same period last year; tourism revenue increased by 24.86%; newly registered enterprises increased by 38.93%. Urban planning work is being urgently reviewed, contributing to making the city's urban appearance more and more spacious and modern...”.

According to the Department of Finance of Can Tho City, in October, the city's industrial production index increased by 4.5% compared to the previous month and by 15% compared to the same period last year. In the first 10 months of 2025, the industrial production index is estimated to increase by 9.5% compared to the same period in 2024. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in October is estimated at VND 31,649 billion, up 5% compared to the previous month. In the first 10 months of 2025, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue is estimated at VND 291,265 billion, up 16.5% compared to the same period in 2024. The export value of goods and foreign currency revenue in October is estimated at 483.9 million USD, up 3.7% compared to the previous month. In the first 10 months of 2025, the value of goods exports and foreign currency revenue reached 4.566 billion USD, an increase of 11.4% over the same period in 2024. In the tourism sector, in the first 10 months of 2025, the city welcomed 9,985,000 visitors, reaching 90.82% of the plan, an increase of 25.83% over the same period in 2024. Total revenue from tourism reached 8,670 billion VND, reaching 86.88% of the yearly plan and an increase of 24.86% over the same period last year.

In addition, the city also creates favorable conditions for businesses to invest in production, business and development. In October, the city granted new business registration to 442 businesses of all types, with a total registered capital of VND 2,770.2 billion, an increase of 17.24% in the number of businesses and an increase of 32.24% in capital compared to the previous month. Accumulated from the beginning of the year to the end of October, the whole city had 3,768 newly registered businesses, with a total registered capital of VND 20,322.22 billion, an increase of nearly 40% in the number of businesses and an increase of 8.86% in capital compared to the same period in 2024. In addition, since the beginning of the year, the city has attracted 20 new investment projects. Of which, there is 1 foreign direct investment (FDI) project with an investment capital of 100 million USD and 19 domestic investment projects with a total registered investment capital of 19,173.57 billion VND. Currently, the city has 124 FDI projects with a total registered investment capital of more than 7.451 billion USD; 1,029 domestic investment projects have been granted investment registration with a total capital of more than 450,500.16 billion VND... The above projects contribute to socio-economic development and job creation for workers in Can Tho City and neighboring areas.

Strive to complete development targets

According to the Department of Finance of Can Tho City, in addition to positive results, the implementation of socio-economic development tasks in the area still has some difficulties and limitations. Typically, the disbursement of public investment capital has not met the requirements, has not provided good support for industrial production and construction, contributing to promoting growth. According to statistics, by the end of October 23, the cumulative disbursement value was 10,464 billion VND, compared to the Prime Minister 's decision, reaching 37.85% and compared to the detailed capital plan, reaching 36.45%. Along with that, the City People's Committee also said that the city's growth index from the beginning of the year until now is still limited, not meeting the scenario. Therefore, there needs to be more drastic in directing, operating and implementing assigned tasks.

To overcome difficulties and successfully implement the socio-economic development goals and targets for 2025, Can Tho City has identified the tasks for the last months of the year as very large, requiring the joint efforts and consensus of the entire political system, the efforts of the business community and the support of the people. In particular, sectors and levels accelerate the progress of implementation and disbursement of public investment capital, mobilize private capital for development investment. Focus on ensuring the quality and progress of construction of large projects and key works with breakthroughs and high spillover value, contributing to promoting growth and creating new production capacity for the economy. Focus on promoting consumption, developing the domestic market; effectively implementing trade promotion programs, promoting the distribution of goods through digital platforms and e-commerce to expand domestic consumption; consolidate and improve the production capacity of enterprises in industrial parks; Focus on reviewing to promptly remove difficulties, support businesses through preferential policies on credit, tax reduction, land fees, trade promotion. In addition, Can Tho City has proposed a plan to strengthen measures to manage the market and prices in the last months of the year; ensure the balance of supply and demand of goods; strengthen inspection and control of counterfeit and poor quality goods.
