According to initial information, at 12:15 p.m. the same day, the Da Nang City Border Guard's combat duty received notice that the cargo ship Tuan Kiet 68, captained by Tran Van Vu, while anchoring in Da Nang Bay for engine repairs, had drifted out of the bay's mouth.

At the time of reporting, the ship was drifting to a position about 2.5 nautical miles northeast of Tien Sa port. There was one crew member on board. The captain requested emergency assistance to avoid the risk of hitting a reef and causing an accident.

After receiving the news, at 12:55 p.m. the same day, the Da Nang City Border Guard Command mobilized vessel BP 08-11-01 with 6 officers and soldiers of Border Guard Squadron 2, captained by Major Nguyen Duc Tuong, to quickly approach and assist in towing the ship back to a safe anchorage in Da Nang Bay.

By 3:00 p.m., the rescue work was completed, ensuring safety for people and vehicles.
