'Ghost' ship Sheng Li leaves Con Dao, tourists regret the feverish check-in spot

Sheng Li ship, once a famous check-in spot in Con Dao, has left, leaving many regrets for tourists.

Recently, the management board of Ben Dam port, Con Dao special zone ( Ho Chi Minh City) said that the ship Sheng Li has been moved from Ben Dam area, after 2 years of drifting and being abandoned in this area.

According to the Ben Dam Port Management Board, the winning bidder for the ship has mobilized specialized vehicles to pull the ship out of the storm shelter anchorage area of ​​Con Dao and move it to another anchorage area to await processing.

Previously, this ship was auctioned for scrap metal recovery purposes, not allowed to be converted or used for other purposes.

More than two years ago, the Sheng Li ship drifted freely at sea and was towed by authorities to anchor at the R33 Squadron Port, Coast Guard Region 3 Command (based in Con Dao).

By August 2024, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province (old) approved a plan to relocate the ship to a storm shelter about 1.5km from the old location.

Recently, a business proposed to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to sink the ship to create a high-class diving spot, bringing a unique tourist experience to Con Dao, however this idea was not approved.

After many years of abandonment at sea, the hull of the Sheng Li ship was degraded, rusted and peeling, but still had a wild, ghostly beauty.

The image of the ship leaning on the calm water once "caused a fever" on social networks, becoming a "golden coordinate" check-in spot for young people who love taking photos and filming vlogs every time they come to Con Dao.

Before the news of the Sheng Li ship leaving Con Dao, many tourists shared souvenir photos with the message "goodbye Sheng Li". It was like a way to preserve the symbolic image associated with their youth and trips to this peaceful island.

Ms. Hoang Thi Bich Ngoc (35 years old, residing in Tam Thang ward, Ho Chi Minh City) - a tourist who has been to Con Dao many times, shared: "I still remember the first time I saw the Sheng Li ship amidst the blue sea and sky, it felt very special. The ship was old but had something very romantic. This time, hearing that the ship was being towed away, I felt regretful because from now on I will no longer be able to see that familiar image."
