For many years, every New Year's Eve, I was busy with my phone. Because of hundreds of New Year's greetings from partners, friends, and social relationships. It would be impolite not to reply to messages from people wishing me a happy new year. Not to mention that they were messages from my boss and partners, and not replying would be rude. So my wife and children suffered on New Year's Eve, only seeing their father constantly texting. And not only did I reply to messages, I also had to text messages to wish him a happy new year. I wished all my employees a happy new year to show that my boss cared.
Wishing my partners a Happy New Year to show my gratitude so they can continue to cooperate with me next year. Honestly, I don’t feel comfortable with that at all. But then one year, my wife, a business owner with over 60 employees and dozens of important partners, turned off her phone after the 28th of Tet.
I asked her: What if there is something important that people need to call you? She replied: They will call your husband. I said: Not everyone knows your husband's phone number? She smiled and said: Only close relatives know your husband's phone number and you need to listen to their calls. I let out an "ah" sound.

Tet, why do we keep making our lives busy with things that… can be done after Tet? Disconnecting is not just about disconnecting from technological devices. It is about disconnecting ourselves from the flow of everyday life, disconnecting ourselves from work, from unnecessary social relationships that are not meaningful to our Tet. To increase connection with those who are our Tet. Husband and wife, children, parents on both sides, close relatives, people who sometimes only see each other for the New Year's Eve meal all year round, waiting for Tet to greet each other.
In the 5G era, network connection is instantaneous, no more delay. People can drive self-driving cars, can perform online surgery, super fast network download speeds. But no 5G can help us extend the years we have with our parents. It can't be as fast as the time our children grow up. It can't replace the warmth of sitting together watching the pot of banh chung waiting for the morning.
5G can erase geographical distance, but how can it erase psychological distance? If you know, old fathers just want to see their children during Tet, old mothers wait for their grandchildren. Even though they still tell their children not to worry about their parents, just do your own work. In this day and age, when we miss each other, we make video calls. Tears flow, why do we have to wait until we are as old as our parents to understand?
